San Mamés always a difficult ground to visit

San Mamés is the scene today, with Atlético Madrid set to take on Athletic Bilbao in an attractive La Liga battle between two teams with European aspirations this season.

A tough test is in store for los Colchoneros, although the hosts are without key duo Aritz Aduriz and Beñat due to suspension. Gameiro and Carrasco have been restored to the Atleti line-up by Simeone.

    This is the problem I have with going full out defensive after a 1-0 lead. Some times you get lucky and the ball doesn’t end up in the back of your net, other times, like today one error means a goal against us. We also look really fucking clueless in counter-attacks. I feel we need to build up play now instead of just defending.

    Yes, he really is isolated up front. He is probably the fastest person on the pitch, so he wins every single loose ball but he can’t do anything when the moment he gets the ball there are 2-3 players against him and nobody chauffeur him.

    Yeah Godin has also been making too many forward runs leading to a few goals being conceded this season already. My point still stands though. Filipe hasn’t really been good for some time now and that’s worrying. For Juanfran, we have Vrsja, but nobody for Filipe.

    This game could’ve been won , but Simeone is either passive or make radical changes, there was no need to take Off Gabi and Carrasco. Correa and Gaitan should’ve come on in place of Saul and Gamiero. We were wasting time by playing long ball after equaliser, no effort to keep ball and pile up pressure on them, we were lucky to get away with a point.
