  • Kris

God we are fucking shit. We literally can’t do anything with the ball other than hoof it up the pitch. There is absolutely zero service for the strikers… What the fuck has happened to Atletico lately?

  • Karlp

I actually thought the first 20mins or so was actually one of our better performance compared to the last few games (villareal, prev las palmas, etc), but the last part we’re back to defend deep. In the last part Gam-Gri are clearly isolated, and needed real attacking player (Carrasco/Correa/Gaitan) to support them.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

We have no game plan whatsoever, we had the possession in the first 15-20 minutes, but we don’t have any idea what to do with the ball. The ideas should come from Simeone, and I don’t think he has any.

I don’t think we can finish in top 4 that way.

  • Kris

You could see the frustration in Gameiro. The dude is fucking short, he can do nothing about it. Why keep on giving him kicking the ball up the field hoping he somehow traps it like Costa and scores? What happened to adapting to situations?

  • Karlp

As a DM, Saul is good at interception, decent at ballkeeping, and not so good at passing.
I still believe with times he can improve those other aspect that he is lacking currently, and I’ll support that (considering he keeps playing as CM/DM).

I remember it took Weigl one whole year to become Kroos-esque the way he is now. And that is by playing him consistently in the same position for the whole year.

  • Kris

Wonderful goal. Beautiful cross from Vrsaljko. What a beast he is.

  • Karlp

    at last Griezmann goal….
Great pass by Koke & Vrsaljko, and assist by Gameiro.

That pass really showed Koke should be played as CM

  • Karlp

yap, sitting deep without real wingers is really a bad system for Griez-Gameiro

  • Kris

    What the fuck Gameiro?

  • Kris

Lol Gimenez to come in as CDM to replace Gabi.

  • Jeronamo Pakor Jones

Winning really blinds poor performances I guess

  • Jeronamo Pakor Jones

And I don’t care what anyone says. The fact that Gaitan isn’t even starting is a disgrace

  • Karlp

currently winning is more important than performance itself I guess, since the team confident is very low right now.

With better confidence, I believe the performance will improve by itself, because this year team is actually filled with some skilled players (unlike last year or so).

  • Karlp

no one would’ve thought out of all the new signings, Gaitan would have the most difficult time here. He’s not even given a fair chance. I can see a Chinese move for him soon.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

Strongly disagree, we need to get our performance right, because with tonight’s performance we gonna struggle in many games tougher than this one.
We do have many skilled players, but if you haven’t noticed, they are stacked on the bench.
Recently, we have seen 6 of our 7 defenders on the pitch at the same time.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

Fuck Simeone if he sent a great talent like Gaitan to China.

  • Zinni DUDU

I do not understand what is happening but why is torres not getting even a minute in the copa? He played the last two games really good. He is now at 32 years of age. He needs game practise. Simeone is denying him a new contract because they want him to play good and then he is not getting enough time. I really start to think that they do not want him in the team

  • Kris

    > 6 of our 7 defends on the pitch at the same time.

Such a shame. You mentioned earlier lack of game plan and I have to agree with you. We should either play defensive or offensive but never neither. Never just go out there and kick the ball around, try to not concede and score one if you can. Do we practice any offensive plays? Even if we do, it’s very difficult to play it with players who really can’t play that type of football. Koke is not able to get past a single player, neither with his pace or his trickery on the ball, yet he continues playing as a wide midfielder. Gaitan rots on the bench and Juanfran plays instead because we can’t let Juanfran be sad after Vrsaljko has taken his RB position.

  • Kris

Bro you complain about Torres. Gaitan is a 25 million euros signing and he’s rotting on the bench. Torres came for free and will be leaving in the summer, who do you think is more important to be integrated into the team?

  • Karlp

Of course I too prefer to play more attacking & controlling even with more risk at defense.

However, the ugly win theory with more defensive player is somehow still acceptable due to the current bad streak. And also it has been proven to work for the last 3 seasons or so. And that’s what Simeone’s good at, i.e. bring stability to the team. He is not someone who take big gamble.

If we got good results for the next 4 games or so, and still sit deep and play with 9 defensive player like this, then it’s not acceptable anymore.

  • Kris

It’s hard to take away something that you strongly believe in. If we get the results playing like this, then it is going to stay like this as long as Simeone is the manager. Honestly I can bare 1 1/2 more seasons of this type of football as long as we get top 3 because I know Simeone’s not going to change. We’ll talk about change of formation and change of play style once he leaves, because until then I am afraid it’s going to be the same old, same old.

  • Karlp

Of course I too prefer to play more attacking & controlling even with more risk at defense.

But this is what Simeone’s good at, i.e. bring stability to the team. He is not someone who take big gamble.

We can only hope he’ll restore the Sept-Oct team & play after we got a streak of good results.

  • Jeronamo Pakor Jones

    And that’s sad

  • Karlp

don’t be too down guys. We’re in one of the happier times actually. We’re currently very stable as one of Europe powerhouse, back from a very unstable period with a lot lot of debt, without any oil/chinese/other money.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very critical of Simeone and many things I think can be improved from him, if you see some of my comments this whole time. But in the bigger picture, we should really enjoy this period.

  • Hannu

Dont know what Simeone is talking about Carrasco not wanting to play right but if he will punish him benching him when he is fit, he (Simeone) should just go. I can see already Koke-Saul-Gabi-Juanfran playing and Carrasco, Gaitan and Correa sitting on the bench. And Juanfran as winger because Vrsaljko is much better is just very sad! Its good that we won but there is no improvement in attacking and I am very sorry but Gameiro is shit.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

Gameiro is shit, Mandzukic is shit, Jackson is shit, Vietto is shit, this just can not be true.
They all used to score many goals before they played under Simeone, Vietto is scoring many goals again under Sampaoli, Mandzu is not, but he is good enough to play for Juve, one of Europe’s giants.
The problem is obviously elsewhere, somebody else is shit, the one who choose strikers who don’t fit in our system, or the one who knows only one system.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

That unstable period ended in 2008 when we qualified to UCL for two consecutive seasons, then we ended our trophy drought in 2010 with two big trophies, which could have been three with Copa del Rey, when we were the biggest spenders in La Liga in the summer of 2007, when we signed the pichichi and the golden boot winner, Forlan.

Of course we had couple of bad seasons after 2010, but we were out of the hole, not deep in it like Valencia right now.
I stopped accepting the 2000 relegation as an excuse since Aguirre took us to the CL in 2007/08.

    We do have Chinese money.

It’s very fucking hard to enjoy when 6 of your 7 defenders are all on the pitch, and when Carrasco, Gaitan & Correa are on the bench, and not that we are even getting results, but we are 6th after 16 weeks.

  • Hannu

Yeah I know and actually Mandzu wasnt shit untill second half of the season when he was injured but also some problems started with that someone and eventually he was forced to leave. There was some words in public also that Mandzu ennoys him and so on and now there is some words about Carrasco so hope that shit doesnt happen again! By the way I am really concerned some players saying that they dont leave Atleti untill Simeone leaves you know but Carrasco hasnt said that or anything else which I really respect. Dont know really how they scout strikers but they really have failed and in managing them or is it really that there is only one striker in world that suits and he is banging goals elsewhere.

  • Karlp

well, except for the Jackson transfer and the stadium naming rights money (which we don’t get yet), we can’t say the Wanda money is the same as Valencia/Inter/Monaco’s money. We literally build from UCL’s money, good scouting, and the fact players are interested in our exciting prospect.

  • Hannu

I think we should be worried as he is such a talent and is mostly sitting on the bench here. Though it seems that he really wants to play here. I quess we have too many great CB:s. Anyway I think we should start rotate Gimenez and Lucas with Godin.
