According to the reliable Dutch magazine Voetbal International Ibrahim Afellay might move to Atlético next summer.
It is reported we have approached Rob Jansen, the player’s agent, to enquire about the midfielder’s situation.
Afellay will be out of contract in 2011 and will have a host of European clubs chasing him.
This summer PSV intended to sell their captain for a fee, which they will now most likely miss out on, but the club couldn’t agree terms with Hamburger SV, Genoa or Fiorentina.
It is rumoured the player himself wasn’t too keen on any of these moves either, as he aims to play for an elite club. It is unknown whether Atlético appeals to Afellay, but he did confirm earlier that he would love to play in Spain.
Afellay is a versatile midfielder that can play in any offensive position, but prefers to be employed as the playmaker, much like José Manuel Jurado.
The club captain debuted for PSV in 2004 and has 28 caps for the Dutch national team.
