Matchday LIVE: Atlético vs. Barcelona

Atleti close in on third but Barca eye the title

Club Atletico de Madrid

Atlético have one objective as they go into today’s match with Barcelona – make them wait to be crowned champions.

While Atleti would close third place with a win, they will also want to avoid seeing a rival celebrate the Spanish Championship, only a year after experiencing the same feeling themselves.

  • Ratchet

My heart says 1-0 Atleti, head says 2-1 Barca.

  • Kris

Can we play Siqueira as a winger? Please…

  • Ratchet

Stunning dive from Dani Alves. Perhaps we’ll see him in the Rio Olympics

  • Brad

Maybe we can try that experiment next week against Granada?

  • Chewie

Good idea, seems like it’s his natural position.

  • Jeronamo Pakor Jones

Not a bad first half. I just wished that last cross had come in a bit earlier

  • Ahmad Hossainy

I tweeted that last November 🙂
We’ve turned Juanfran, the mediocre winger into a great fullback, why not do the opposite with Siqueira ?! .. and it’s not too late, Juanfran was almost at the same age as Siqueira is now

  • Mario Suarez always watching..

  • Kris

Yeah, he seems like he can take the risks of a winger, unlike any of the other “wingers” we have. I don’t know why Griezmann doesn’t dribble anymore. To me, he is at least as good as Neymar.

  • Ratchet

I feel like we’re losing our identity as a club here. Looking all too happy to roll over yet again.

  • Brad

I’m trying to figure out who sold tickets to Barça supporters…they only let in something like 7 of ours for the final last year, the front office should have played their same cards back to them.

  • Brad

Also, if this is what Barca under a transfer ban looks like, fifa needs to find more creative punishments.

  • Ratchet

All the pressure is supposed to be on Barca, yet, we’re being made to nearly sit back and defend at home. We’ve always taken the game to Barca at home, and made it hard for them. Why aren’t we doing that now? Are we supposed to be content with another loss?

  • Ratchet

Flat and disappointing not for the first time. Wouldn’t be surprised if we lose yet again next week and finish 4th, to be honest.

  • Chewie

No solution for Barca this season, a well-deserved defeat. We were like a fortress under siege with 10 brave defenders inside, trying to hold off the heavy weaponry and strike back occasionally. But after 60 days we ran out of supplies and capitulated.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

well, let’s hope that he has watched his last game at the Calderon !

  • Ahmad Hossainy

As I hoped and expected, Celta clinched a draw at Mestalla, so we need just a draw vs Granada to secure the 3rd place .. I think this is not too much to ask .. or is it ?!

Well Played Barca, But we were not able to be in it this Year Not by choice. If we still have the last year’s 11 things would be different. I am sure we are capable of defending the title.Well, this outfit just need to continue growing and improving next year. I think Oblak can be our safe pair of hands as replacing Courtois whom was a critical loss to me. The way we build up our attacking play were really degraded from the last, heavily flank ward attack and lacking any back up support That should be our next main focus next year which should be Superb when we got it back Right. Anyways we have one trophy more than Real which should always be a cause of joy, the Supercopa de Espana. Forza Atleti !! P E A C E

  • Abdil Egriøz

He doesn’t do his job when it comes to defending so he might as well play in an offensive position in the last match

  • Kris

From our current form. It kind of is. And you can’t even blame fatigue this time. The players have got enough rest compared to last year. I don’t know why the players seem afraid. I think if we strengthen the central midfield then we have strengthened the whole team. Gabi, Mario, Tiago, just can’t do it no more. Siqueira moved up, and maybe try a different formation? Oh yeah, and play the Mexican Jimenez. The kid is good, fast, strong, dribbles, shoots, but he’s not getting nowhere near enough playing time.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

All what you said is true, but yet, before tonight’s game we had a
13-games non-losing streak in La Liga, last defeat was against Celta

The fact is that we didn’t lose many games this season even when we played poorly, before tonight we had lost just 5 games, one less than Madrid who had 9 points above us, they are the draws what were our problem, we had 8 of them, and the 3 on a row vs Sevilla, Valencia & Espanyol were what killed our hopes for wining the title, so we just hope to have the same problem vs Granada and get a draw !

If we excluded Cordoba who are a big joke, Granada have the weakest attack in La Liga with just 29 goals, including the 3 “suspicious” goals in Anoeta tonight, so if we didn’t give them gifts, we shall not concede (so it’s vital that Miranda & Mario don’t play !)
Granada also have the 2nd weakest defense with 64 goals (also excluding Cordoba) so we should score, at least one goal

And if everything went wrong and we lost, there will be still a hope that our boy at Almeria Thomas Partey will make another big game and helps them to get at least a draw !

  • Mohammed Basith

will thomas play for us next season?

  • Ahmad Hossainy

I don’t think that he has a European passport, so I strongly doubt it
Another loan spell would be good, but with more competitive team than Almeria
