Just a week after Atlético’s sporting director spoke out about the return of several loaned out players, rumours have been popping up about future Atlético Madrid signings. No, not Cavani. And no, not Reus.
The 22-year-old Swiss superstar Granit Xhaka is apparently a top transfer target for los Rojiblancos. Atlético Madrid has reportedly made an offer of €25 million to Borussia Monchengladbach for the promising midfielder. It is well known that Atlético need to reinforce their midfield, as neither Gabi and Tiago are getting any younger.
In an interview with Bild, Xhaka confirmed Atlético’s interest. “I’ve heard of Atlético’s interest, but right now I’m not paying any attention to it. I’m focusing on Gladbach,” he said.
The midfielder is a regular starter for Monchengladbach coach, Lucien Favre. The only times he didn’t play were due to injury or suspension.
Along with Xhaka, AS reported that Atlético are trying to tie up the Belgian top-talent, Youri Tielemans.
The 17-year-old set the Belgian league alight when he began playing for RSC Anderlecht’s first team at just 16.
Tielemans plays as a central midfielder and he is a top European prospect in his position. His contract with Anderlecht expires in 2016.
In the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, the midfielder has played all but one match for Anderlecht. He also featured in all six Champions League group matches.
These two midfielders join former Atlético youth player, Ignacio Camacho as possible transfer targets for the 2015 summer transfer window.
What do you think about Xhaka and Tielemans?
