Matchday LIVE: Atlético vs. Barcelona

The quarter-final of the Copa del Rey concludes tonight!

Club Atletico de Madrid v Barcelona - Copa del Rey Quarter-Final: Second Leg

It’s the most important game of Atleti’s season so far. They need a win tonight against a Barcelona side who are in blistering form – the same Barcelona side they’ve failed to beat in their last three meetings in all competitions.

Down 1-0 from the first leg, Atleti know that if Barcelona score, they need to score three in reply!

Soooooo that wasn’t a penalty? Hand away from the body and stopping a ball on route to goal whether you’re looking or not is a penalty isn’t it?

  • Chewie

There was no penalty with Juanfran but that doesn’t cancel the fact that after Alba’s handball we conceded a goal. Damn it.

  • Chewie

Game over. Playing open football against Barcelona is colourful but stupid. They are just faster at thinking and running. It feels especially bitter because we could’ve done it. Torres was majestic! Shit, now I want us to at least win the game, if not the round.

  • Brad

Well since Real is out, RFEF really wants Barça to stay in…it’s the only way they’ll have people keep watching la copa.

  • Max Huber

There is so much energy in the team, especially because of Torres, but our defense is really bad. Neymar has so much space, so he can shoot coals by fun! The referee is really bad – bad decisions! It was a clear penalty for Atletico!

  • BlasiusMagnus

Well i really enjoyed that first half, but gabi’s sent off just killed the game…

  • Brad

Especially how suspicious it is that it was given in the tunnel, out of view…

  • Kris

Simeone teaches discipline fouling. These fouls aren’t at all disciplined fouls. FUCK YOU Mario Suarez! I hope this is the last game for you in an Atleti jersey.

  • Kris

The only positives from this match I got was that–Torres is a much more technical player than Mandzukic, and will score many goals if rotated well with Mandzukic. Oblak should be number 1, no questions asked. I am sure Moya would have conceded few of the shots from Barca. Gimenez, a defender for the future and the present–excellent player.

One more thing, I hope Mario Suarez doesn’t play another game with the Atletico jersey again. He should be sold to whoever comes asking for him. Saul will play very well in his role.

  • Chewie

The first 45 minutes were the most exciting football I’ve seen in a long time. Not good or bad, just exciting. And after that… What a disgraceful way to lose. Helpless, stupid fouls, rudeness and undisciplined behaviour.Cholo has a lot of work to do with this team.

I´m really disappointed about the spirit of Atletico. They came out with the mentality of giving up! No pressure at all, just fouls and awful passes. I don´t know, but maybe Simeone told them in halftime to stop fighting and conserve their energy for La Liga and Championsleague. But I really felt sorry for the few they tried to push the game a bit!

1st and 3rd goal , i think oblak was more a Vase on the goal than a keeper
