Atlético fans were greeted with some fantastic news today, when Ángel Correa took part in full training for the first time with his rojiblanco team mates.

The club announced on the 27th May that we had agreed to sign the 19-year-old from San Lorenzo on a five-year contract, after a tremendous debut season in the Argentine Primera Division.

However during the medical it was detected that the youngster had a cardiac condition, and on June 17 Correa underwent surgery to remove a benign tumour from his heart.

He has been recovering well though, and five months later he is taking part in full training with his Atleti team mates.

Speaking after the training session, captain Gabi said that the players were overjoyed.

“We are all thrilled because he has been able to overcome all of the issues he’s had,” he told the media.

“For many months, he has been training on his own and has gone through tough times. Now you have to congratulate him.”

“We’re glad he’s with us and hope that he can join us on the pitch as soon as possible, to bring what he has and to continue to grow with Atlético.”

Likewise, we’re absolutely thrilled to have him at Atlético. The youngster has such promise and really showed it during his stint with San Lorenzo.

You can see what talent this boy has by looking through his best bits in the Argentinean league.

Great news that Correa is able to play again! Welcome to Atletico, Angel and best of luck!

  • Great news, but I don’t see any possibility for him to play for us this season,

first : there is no open non-European spot right now, and I can’t see any of the 3 players occupying these spots leaving : Miranda, Gimenez & Jimenez
(the last one played for Club America in official games this season and can’t play for 3 different club in one season, so if we want to loan him then his only option is Club America, and that will never happen)

and second : even if Miranda got his Spanish citizenship -which he has applied for- and opened a spot, I don’t think El Cholo will use a player who just came from S.America and missed the whole pre-season

What I think is that we will loan him to our little brother and our good neighbor :
    Rayo Vallecano
There is good business between us and them, we love to help them, they play beautiful attacking football with a lot of possession which will perfectly suit Correa, and they are in Madrid

by the way : what Rayo players and coaching staff did for Carmen is really heart-warming
Rayo Vallecano’s budget is 7 million (yes, seven, with no zeros) but they never stop helping Vallecas

Finally. I was just thinking about him before refreshing, and he pops up here. This guy has sooo much talent, i can not wait to see him play in red and white. These kind of injuries can really tore one up. Let’s just hope it did’nt decrease his talent. And yes loaning him out for the remainder of the season would be a good move. Instead of sitting on the bench with cerci, he will get some experience for the next season.

If all goes well, imagine the deadliest offense with Griezmann, Turan and Correa. Three little devils.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Rayo for many reasons and a loan move out there for Correa would be ideal.
