If it were up to AtléticoFans, this man would have been handed a deal till 2070.
Nevertheless we’re incredibly excited by the news that Gabi Fernández has signed a new contract and will continue with the club for another three years.
On Friday the captain signed until 2017.
Gabi came through the ranks of our cantera and made his first team debut in 2004. After spells with Getafe and Real Zaragoza, the 30-year old returned to the Vicente Calderón in 2011, where he’s been hugely successful under coach and former teammate Diego Simeone.
On the club’s website, Gabi said he wanted to sign an extension with Atleti as quickly as possible.
“I want to continue making history and helping this team”, the midfielder said.
Since returning, Gabi has led his team to victories in the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, Copa del Rey and the Liga BBVA.
