With both the loan of Thibaut Courtois and the 1-year deal of Daniel Aranzubia set to expire, Atlético needs to sign two goalkeepers for next season.

Half of that task is now complete, after the club announced the transfer of Miguel Ángel Moyá on Wednesday. Pending a medical, the ‘keeper will sign for 3 years with the Rojiblancos.

The 30-year old shot stopper comes over from Getafe. A fee was not disclosed, but we reportedly paid €3m for his services. He is Atleti’s second signing this summer after Ángel Correa’s transfer was announced last week.

Moyá started his career at Mallorca and earned a move to Valencia in 2009. However, he failed to impress for Los Che and was shipped off to Getafe two years later. In the suburb of Madrid he’s played consistently again, but there are doubts among Atleti fans whether the goalie is good enough to start for the club.

Do you think Moyá will be our first goalkeeper, or is he simply an (expensive) backup?

  • Atletico9

I think he will be our backup. But 3 million is a lot for a backup keeper. Hope we will buy Keylor Navas from Levante if we can’t keep Courtios.

  • TOMMYNESTOR7

he will be a backup for sure.. i would also love to see navas as our first choice, but according to spanish newspapers estudiantes young keeper rulli is in our radar..

  • Wate

According to Squawka, he’s not THAT bad. Keylor Navas would of course be the best choice.

He’s not that bad but I prefer Kaylor to him!

  • Kris

Most likely will be a backup keeper but damn that’s a lot for a backup keeper(especially an Atleti back-up keeper. Holy shit!).

  • Zakaria

Dont know a lot about him and cant remember his performance, but I am sure he is good, he must be good he is playing for Atleti.

What about Asenjo, he is still an Atleti, right?

  • ali_

he cant be as bad as aranzubia

  • Zakaria

what about the Siqueira news? anyone knows anything about him, besides the fact that Real Wanted him.

I read he is a done a deal and a possible Felipe Luis replacement!!!!

  • Yon

We were linked with Siqueira before If I recall correctly, a couple of seasons ago! Seems decent! No Filipe, but has potential!

  • Abdullah Karam

Diego costa to chelsea “the gardian,ESPN” !

  • Abdullah Karam

    We need LUKAKU NOW

  • Ahmad Hossainy

He is for sure a replacement for Aranzubia, not Tibu

and if you really believe that 3 million in these days are a lot then you have to take a look on the transfer fees in the last 4 years
and if you think it’s a lot for a back-up GK then you just need to remember Almeria game,
imagine if we lost against Barca in the last La Liga game, then only a draw vs Almeria would have been enough to win the title, and I believe Moya would have secured that draw for us,
in that case, wouldn’t you pay those 3 million for Moya just to play that game in Juegos Mediterráneos Stadium ?!

    I would !!

  • epoy

I think by signing a keeper like Moya (very good but not at the level fans want for
a regular starting keeper) would mean we would be taking a gamble at young unproven
but with high potential goalkeeper (Rulli?).

  • Shaun

Moya will probably be a back up keeper next year, as for the main goalkeeper I believe if Courtois doesn’t remain in the club and returns to Chelsea we should look for a keeper in the Bundesliga just like Barcelona have done. The keepers in Germany have a lot of potential plus they are young, here’s a couple of names Chollo could search up: Bernd Leno (Bayern Leverkusen), Ralf Fahrmann (FC Schalke), Steven Ulreich (VFB Stuttgart), Oliver Baumann (SC Freiburg), Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt).
