Just days after their season finished, Atlético Madrid announced their first signing for the new season.

Argentinian youngster Ángel Correa will join the Rojiblancos after scoring 12 times in 65 appearances for San Lorenzo.

Atleti will reportedly pay €8m for the 19-year old offensive midfielder, who could also play up front.

After Correa passes his medical, he’ll sign a 5 year contract in Madrid.

The signing is good news for Atleti fans, who have had to endure a lot of transfer talk these past days with numerous reports linking Godín, Tiago, Filipe, Arda, Diego Costa and Miranda away from the Vicente Calderón.

  • Colchenero

I watched this player and he really impressed me with his talent… He needs to learn more at Atlético and am sure we’ll sell him later with over 60k later :p

  • starvs

Excited about this one, looks good and he is a legit atleti fan it appears. Hope he develops as expected.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

a very promising talent, very young and cheap
a great signing by all means

    one thing I don’t like thought :
if he really will stay at San Lorenzo until they finish their campaign in Copa Libertadores
if it is true, then he could stay with them until mid August in case they reached the final
if there is only one thing we learned about Simeone and his coaching staff in the last two & a half years, then it is how very very important the preseason is
much more important than it is in any other club
with the lack of great talents, this Atleti is pretty much about fitness and tactics
so, if Correa gonna miss the preseason or most of it, I don’t think he will have a very big part with the team in his first season

Some guys mentioned the other day that he is an Atleti fan, I wasn’t sure about that, but just few minutes ago I saw a picture of him on Billy Edwards twitter account wearing Atleti shirt

It makes a big difference when you have a player who is also a fan of the club,
as Derek said, some fans are concerned about the rumors that some of our key players are leaving (not me though), but among the names Derek mentioned, you will not find Gabi, Raul, Koke or Juanfran .. because they are not just Atleti players, they are Atleti big fans (I also believe that Filipe, Godin & Arda are big fans too, maybe I can believe that Cosat & Miranda want to leave, but not those three)

And please my fellow rojiblancos, don’t compare Correa to El Rata
in principle, I hate comparing players to each others, especially if they both are still playing
but if you must compare, you could call him the next Riquelme

Welcome to The Champions of La Liga Angelito

  • Kris

Definitely Ahmad. I also noticed that the preseason with Simeone seems like a great mental preparation for what’s to come upon the players as well as a physical prep. I hope Correa makes it there, and all of Oli, Manquillo, Saul, Guilavogui, and Correa also make it. Damn that’s a little more than 1/3 of the team for the future not including Koke. Better things are yet to come to Atleti. We will rule Europe and Spain in the coming decades. Forza Atleti!

  • Jeronamo

    Hmmmm

  • Will

A sneak peek on Ángel Correa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCu5uShMKbo

  • Ali

So it seems like villa is also leaving!

  • epoy

    Rakitic next?

  • Adnan Khan

When i look at Correa he reminds me of a native american. I am pretty sure he is just like Diaz the CB was. Both argentinians. And thats so cool because we are called “los indios”.

  • Farzad From IRan

oh,,nooo,,he is coming from sanlorenze and it is first time he is play in europe and i am worry about that!!!!!

  • Farzad From IRan

I watched his video his driblling is good but playing in laliga is so so harder playing in argentina!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chewie

@Ahmad – you just have to take a look at Juanfran celebrating our decima to understand that he’s not leaving. He’s the only one who stepped on the stage wearing Atleti shirt, Atleti scarf round his waist and another one round his arm.

Indeed, pre-season is what gives us momentum to start strong and keep the pace until the season’s end. I believe some of the older players will shine – in a very special collective sense – next season, while the youngsters will grow steadily in the wise hands of Simeone.

  • starvs

Yes Chewie, I knew Juanfran was that guy from day one. His debut was in a Derby vs Madrid and we had some bullshit calls against us, and he was livid, the only one who looked like he gave a shit, and he had only been with us for like a week.

  • Kris

Juanfran is special.. Even though he played for Real early in his career, he plays as passionately as a canterano with Atleti. We needs players who want to play and not those who are there just because they are there.

  • Kris

And Courtois takes another Zamora with only am average of 0.64 goals conceded. Two times in a row, why would Courtois wan to leave!

  • Ringo S. T. Gambo remember me

am i the only one here not hating El ‘Rata’? Haha

Haven’t seen anything by Correa, but everyone speaking of him seems extremely positive
I would love it if he were a new Kun, Kun+Simeonetraining would be amazing I’d think.

  • palestine-atletico

No no no no not soldado i dont want soldaado bring negredo plz he is way better.

  • piserakos

According to Cadena Ser Rakitic is Atletico player

  • Jelle

I would love Rakitic in a Atletico shirt!!
Immobile very close to Dortmund, so he can’t be our new attacker if we sold Costa..

  • palestine-atletico

Villa officially to USA NY club…

  • epoy

I dont mind if Villa leaves. He is not the same as before and i think his misses and posts/bar hits lately are not due to him being unlucky. It will only become worse next season. Those massive wages of his freed can be used to give important players improved deals so we can increase their buyout clause.

@Palestine-Atletico, im an atleti fan from Philippines and goodluck to your team in the AFC Challenge Cup finals. May the best team win.

  • kris

Agreed, Epoy. I’m saying let go of Villa to the MLS, that’s an 8 million a year we can pay to better players like Costa, Godin, Koke. If we buy Rakitic who can play as a CM, CAM, and on the WINGS, we can switch back to the 4-2-3-1 formation. Diego didn’t work out so well as Simeone opted for Raul when Villa wasn’t playing but with Rakitic in the CM/CAM role and with a powerful lone striker like Costa, there should be much more goals coming. Rakitic is really energetic too and has great stamina so, I see him fitting in perfectly with a counterattacking Atleti team. Let go of Villa and buy Rakitic.

  • kris

But, I am really not going to buy any of these rumours to make the fans more optimistic until the transfers really happen.

  • sajedeh

im sorry for all of you dirty dogs. just remember last season . you we re dieing to to have a great player like villa in your crazy team but just whit one champion ship you forgot every thing.we can pay to better players like Costa, Godin, Koke????????? ha ha ha.really funny. only one thing i can say to you dirty dogs : you dont deserve to have maravilla in your team…

  • Dircil

SIQUEIRA as a replacement for Luis?

  • Chewie

Screw all the moneybags. According to our representative:

“The interest is there, but Atletico will not sell. The club are determined to keep hold of much of the squad for next season. We’ll see what is happening with different players, but the intention is not to sell to anyone.”

    http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/atletico-madrid-are-refusing-to-sell-luis-felipe-to-chelsea-as/

  • Ringo S. T. Gambo remember me

You’d think by now people would know Filipe’s real name

    And maravilla fan
Of course hes a bigger name, but this year hes been very inconsistent and Koke, etc were way more important to the team so thats why wed rather raise some of their salaries from 1 to 2 million than keep paying 8 million to someone who doesn’t play every game, isn’t as reliable anymore and sadly is getting older

He might still come back to form, but its hard and especially expensive to have faith he will

Personally I’m hoping Adrian keeps his late season spirit and can get back into shape finally, and that Leo grows into his potential self
No need for soldado in that case, although he does bring other skills to the table
But in my opinion he’s too expensive for an extra option
    Especially with Atleti their finances

  • ali_

    about villa:
you cant live from your past. yes he was great, but now he is shit. im glad he is leaving.

  • Luis

Rakitic would be a great signing. Need to wrap it up asap

  • jeronamo

i wasn’t as thrilled as others that we got him Villa anyway. The price was good but he was largely inconsistant and poor at barca as well and some people blamed that on Messi (still do). I think he just isn’t as good as his past self and for me I would like it if Adrian left as well, I want dependable strikers or promising ones or both, not guys that we have to wait and hope for them to catch previous form of 2 years past.
I’m glad Villa is gone and i hope he takes his band of followers with him because I only want to see ATLETICO MADRID supporters here

  • jeronamo

    inconsistent*

  • Silchas

villa incnsistenst? i think he was consistent in not scoring a goal since the 8th of march. 😉

  • sajedeh

I,m really sorrry for every thing … just this : Not deserved

  • sajedeh

Yes he didn,t score but don,t forget that he fighted for your red and white …

  • Chewie

Yes, he was fighting and he has our respect for that – I personally was very impressed how he fought for every ball in every situation. And it would be okay if he wasn’t earning that much and scored more often. The truth is, he’s just no match for today’s Atletico. It was his last big club and big victory. Now we wish him luck and look for someone who can SCORE.

  • Jeronamo

@ Chewie… that was better put lol thanks

  • kris

This is why THIS Atleti is such a huge inspiration to me in real life. This video is beautiful and El Capitano makes it even more beautiful with his voice in the background. All you guys should check it out if you haven’t already. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLi-UV4YCUE

  • kris

Nobody denies the player that Villa was some years ago or is still, but if he can’t put the ball in the back of the net when needed most, then that striker isn’t for us. I would say the same for Diego Costa and I have said it before. Atletico de Madrid is a TEAM and Sajdesh, if you were supporting Atleti just because of and individual player then, you might as well just support New York City FC or whatever it is he may make his move to. I like Villa. Always have. Brilliant player on the pitch and great person when he’s not playing but if you can’t score for more than 2 months while also getting regular minutes then, 8 million a year just isn’t for you, especially from a poor(but one of the richest clubs though, actually) club like Atleti with a greedy board. Best of luck to Villa if he moves to any other club. If he doesn’t, then best of luck to him at Atleti but it better be after a huge paycut.

  • palc

We should continue on making hard work, team spirit and determination our trademark. And implement it in our transfer policy. You have to be willing to sacrifice for this team.

  • palestine-atletico

Guuyysss i am the happiest in the world… PALESTINE reached the asian cup finals 2015 in Australia…
    موطني موطني تحيا فلسطين

  • Ahmad Hossainy

@Chewie @Starvs @Kris‏ :‏exactly, Juanfran is a special person, so special that few days ago he rejected an offer from Arsenal (for the 2nd time this season) and this time he was offered -according to AS- 4 time what he earns in Atleti

The world still have some good people, some loyal people .. and that’s one of the reasons why a club with limited resources like us can keep fighting and winning against the super rich clubs

We have many players like Juanfran, and it’s very easy to know them .. there are clear signs, like the celebration after victories like Chewie said, and the reactions after defeats, and their very clear and direct answers when they are asked about their future

@Palestine-Atletico : Congrats my friend for the historic qualification to Asian Cup of Nations
and goodluck next time for The Philippines Epoy

  • epoy

    @Palestine-Atletico,
Congrats to Palestines for winning the AFC Challenge Cup. Deserved victory as you created more chances even not clear cuts. Im jealous you get to go in Australia for the Asian Cup. All the best!

Im confident that our players are willing to continue and stay in the the club but these reports of other clubs offering double, triple or 4x their current wage is making me nervous.

    Aupa Atleti!!!

  • Ringo S. T. Gambo remember me

I respect Villa, but unless all of a sudden he’d settle for Adrián level wages, it just would not be tactful to keep him. I hate money, but we live in a world ruled by it, so especially a club in Atleti’s situation needs to be wise in handling it.
And since football is a fast moving world, in my opinion you should be paid to your qualities and deliveries, not your name and history. At the moment Koke is offering the club much more, therefore he should be rewarded as such, meaning more appreciation for him in the ways presented. Being treated equally would be ideal, perhaps, but in this western culture, that would not work.

    Tldr; Villa is too expensive

  • Diddler

Every player in this seasons squad will hold a special place in my heart! Especially Villa, without his early season goals La Liga would not have been possible! For a player I also thought was lazy(until he got the ball), he worked very very hard for the team defensively which is something he has never had to do before, as a result of this hard defensive work maybe this is why the goals dried up? I dunno!

I agree though his salary is too much, it was worth it for this season, but it’s time for both club and player to move on and hopefully works out well for both!

  • Jelle

We have 4 players in the Spanish works cup squad: juanfran, Koke, villa and Costa 🙂 fantastic and by the way Torres also going to Brazil!

  • Yon

6 if you include De Gea and Torres 😉

  • palestine-atletico

With all respect to del bosque but negredo is way better than torres, villa and pedro.
I would love to see negredo playing for atletico.

  • Wowie

    @EPOY,

Hi there, kababayan! Hahaha.. Couldn’t help but react to you mentioning you’re from the Philippines. It’s so awesome to find another Atleti fan from here! Save for some Spanish people I met at the bar last Saturday during the UCL final, I don’t know anyone over here who’s an Atleti fan. Very good to know. 🙂

  • Ahmad Hossainy

    About David Villa :
from all the comments I can say many of us agree about one thing :
We would love him to stay for another season under 2 conditions :
1- to be not the first choice striker or even the second choice, but maybe the third after Costa (or his replacement) and Leo
2- to agree to take a big cut from his salary

and I must say Kris : There is no way Villa earned 8 million last season
that was his salary at Barca, and that was the reason they sold him, and when Atleti talked to him, the first thing they said is asking him to drop half of his salary, and he agreed immediately despite having bigger offers from Arsenal & Tottenham because he chose football over money
so, according to several reports he earned 4 million last season,
but 4 is still a lot for him, I think he have to yet again take a 50 % cut of his salary, and if he agreed to that, and if we gave a big number of his minutes to Leo I will be more than happy to have Villa for one more season

David Villa did not have a bad season, it was not great, but was not bad either
15 goals and 4 assists, and he had a big defensive role just like all Atleti players
and he played 3084 minutes out of 5520 the team played this season, that’s only 55%
so, by games, he played 33.5 game this season
15 goals and 4 assists in 33.5 games are not bad at all, but once again, that’s not worth 4 million

And there is an important point I didn’t see anyone talk about it :
Villa is not just a striker .. he is an image
have you forgotten that there were more than 20.000 fans at Vicente Calderon at his presentation ?!
Villa dose not only give us goals and assists, he brings us sponsors, advertising, new memberships, he helps us to sell more tickets and more T-shirts, to have more likes on our facebook page and more followers on our twitter and instagram accounts
maybe a player like Lukaku -for example- can score more goals than Villa, but he can not help us financially like Villa does

    @Sajedeh :
I am an Arab, and from your name (if it’s really your name) I believe you are either an Arab or an Iranian, and it is a girls name
so I guess you are just a girl who has a crush on David Villa, and you don’t have a single idea about Atleti, or about football itself .. but that’s OK
while what is not OK is calling us dirty dogs just because we are true fans and we don’t have fantasies about Villa like you

I really wish Villa to stay at Atleti, but if his departure will make us not to see you here again then I will not be totally disappointed

*Gracias Señor del Bosque for choosing Juanfran over Carvajal despite being a big madridista
you proved once again that you are professional person (unlike some other idiots), and that’s why the whole world respects you

  • kris

Shit! True Ahmad, I probably should have done some research before making that comment. Yehh, I knew he was earning 8 million at Barca so that’s just what hit me. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes. VDB did show his professionalism with the choice of Juanfran over Carvajal but I disagree with couple of his decisions. Cazorla over Navas is a mistake, imo. Navas offers much more pace, width, dribbling, and is a very good crosser of the ball. Great at opening up spaces and making something out of nothing. He would be a great substitute when you need a “plan B” since all of his midfielders have the same kind of game in so many ways, this winger would have offered something different as a substitute or even as a starter.
Torres over Negredo is another I disagree with. As much as I love El Nino appreciate all that he did for Atleti and Spain, in current form there’s no way Torres is better than Negredo. I mean, you saw his match against Bolivia if you didn’t (this link is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG54o9b8844).
This forum is probably not for discussions on Spain NT but since Atleti are a Spanish club and 4 Atleti players are going to the World Cup for Spain, thought I should have pointed that out.

  • Ali

David villa has passed his medical ahead of his move to NYFC so I guess he’s not staying!
@ahmed about raising clubs profile we should buy ronaldinho just like psg did with david beckham.

  • Ursa Major

Please, please, please let us get Rakitic

  • Ali

@sajedah I disagree with you and about last year we had a great player in our team and probably one of the best in Europe in radamel falcao and for you to say that villa is better then falcao then just go home you’re drunk.

  • Silchas

it’s official Villa will leave Atleti. The Officials wanted him to stay but they( probably new york) have made him an offer, he couldn’t refuse,

  • Ursa Major

so just when he thinks he is out, we won’t pull him back in?

    Not a great loss tbh

  • Yon

Rumours are this kid will be loaned out for first season?

  • Kris

Thank you Villa and good luck in your next journey.

  • Will

Hey friends, do you have any opinion about Milan Badelj from Hamburg? According to Marca we are tracking him.

  • Ali

Did any of you guys watch yesterday’s friendly USA vs turkey and did you guys saw Michael Bradley he was class yesterday and his passes were magic. Nuri sahic and calhanoglu was no where near him!

  • kris

Well, Michael Bradley has always been class. He used to play for Roma, Gladbach and Chievo, and even though his position is a CM, i think of him more as a CAM. And yeah, he’s like the Iniesta of Spain only that he’s not Iniesta.

  • starvs

Yeah Michael Bradley is tha man, always been a big fan, even when my fellow compatriots were idiotically saying he was only on the US team because his dad was the coach, fools. Shame he is back in MLS though, would like to see him starting somewhere in Europe, he is certainly more than good enough. Not sure he could break into an elite club, but he could certainly Clint Dempsey at Fulham it.
