On Sunday night at 19.00 CET Atlético Madrid will look for their 7th consecutive league victory when they take on Getafe.

Against their neighbours Atlético will have an opportunity to expand their lead over Barcelona to 4 points, after the Catalans lost in Granada on Saturday.

Atlético will still be without Arda Turan, but they welcome the return of Diego Costa who has been included in the match selection.

Also returning is Gabi, who sat out a one game suspension against Villarreal last week, before leading his team to an impressive 1-0 victory in our midweek Champions League clash with Barcelona.

With the semifinal draw taking place on Friday, attention of fans and press shifted to our next opponents Chelsea, but once again Diego Simeone warned not to look too far ahead. It’s partido a partido until the last game of the season as Atleti can’t afford to drop any points along the way.

During his pregame press conference, El Cholo said “the game against Getafe will be difficult because of the position they’re in, they need the points. They’re strong on set pieces and they have good options going forward with players like Pedro Léon, Pablo Sarabia, Castro and Lafita.”

“We have had four days to recover and before the game I’ll decide if I’ll make squad rotations to give some players rest. Now more than ever we’re moving from game to game“, Simeone added.

His opponent is a familiar face. Cosmin Contra played for Atlético from 2002 till 2004 and made 34 appearances for Los Rojiblancos. In March he was appointed Getafe manager replacing yet another former Colchonero, Luis García.

Contra was full of praise of his rivals on Sunday, saying “right now, Atlético is the best team in Europe.

“They will come here looking for what they have been doing lately, to win every remaining game. They are fighting for La Liga, we’re fighting to avoid relegation. We’ll have to compete with them, show the same intensity. It will be difficult, but not impossible”, said the Romanian.

The manager will try to prepare his men better than they were earlier in the season, when Getafe were thrashed 7-0 at the Vicente Calderón.

  • kris

GODIN!!!! WHAT A GOALL!!!!I CAN”T BELIEVE MY EYES!!!! WHAT A GOAL THAT WAS!!! DAMN!!!

  • kris

Mono Burgos protecting his players. I love this man. He loves Atleti. Great coach. Simeone and Burgos complement each other really well.

  • kris

LMFAO!! And Mono’s Google Glasses tho.

  • Will

Boring match so far.Villa is nervous and it is not worthy to be like this against Getafe.

The field seems to be awful I think that’s the most complicated to us now.

  • ali_

i dont think it was a spectacular goal, tho the cross was a beauty. also i think it was a huge mistake from the keeper. but was good to see how happy were our players after the goal.

  • kris

Lol yup, Ali_, the first time I saw the goal it looked like something out of the ordinary, but then the replay actually showed it was the goalkeeper’s mistake, even though credit to Godin and Juanfran for that pass.

  • Jeronamo

    Flat second half so far

  • Jeronamo

    Finally a penalty in 2014

  • Jeronamo

And leave it to Costa to miss it

  • Will

It’s clear to me that Costa shouldn’t shoot the penalties. Come on, Cholo.. You know that too.

  • kris

COSTA, man… I saw it in him when he was about to take it. Horrible penalty taker. He was anxious when he was about to take it initially. Scared.. Nervous.. Simeone needs to help improve Costa’s penalty kicks.

  • Jeronamo

Call me a fanboy but Diego or Sosa or both need to come on

  • Tabriz – Guney Azerbaycan

    Yashasin yenilmez aleticooooooo
    Yashasin azerbaijan

  • kris

Costa is losing it. He needs to know missing and scoring are a part of the game. Come on, man. That’s too much frustration.

  • Jeronamo

Is it only frustrating me that we are playing against 10 men and still haven’t finished this game?

  • Jeronamo

    FUCK

  • Will

What a warrior Costa is, man. I can see Barbiano Ronaldo doing something like that.

  • Will

    *can’t

  • Jeronamo

    I hope it isn’t broken

  • pantic#10

    wtf???
Costa broke his leg?? OMG what an impact…
    damn

  • Jeronamo

I wanted another goal but not at the cost of Costa

  • ali_

hopefully its a “scratch”. please be a scratch. please.

  • Will

According to the channel I’m watching, Costa is leaving the stadium in a ambulance.

  • Atletico9

Please god. Wish all my Luck to Costa!

  • Atletico9

Oh no. Im very worried about him.

  • Dircil

I don’t think we will have him for the semi-final! What I cost we have to pay for a goal! Damn, I wish Adrian shot the ball instead of passing it to Costa!!!!

  • Ali

An ambulance has been spotted at the rear of the stadium, with Costa expected to be taken to hospital following that clash with the post. It could be a costly win for US….

  • Will

Adrian did the correct. Costa’s mistake here. Hope it’s not a big deal. I’ll check on twitter.

  • kris

According to Atleti’s twitter. “Luckily, Costa has only one injury after hitting the post.” That means, it’s nothing serious.

  • pantic#10

Yes Kris, i read it too right now.
    Thanx god…

  • Silchas

And now every Scolari-supporter will weep tears of joy.
    ah crap.
thanks to LaLigas vision of fairplay Barca and Real will not play next weekend due to the Copa-Final. In my opinion that ist a clear distortion of competition, but hey thats spain.

  • Jeronamo

Thanks Kris… for now that has me feeling a bit better. I almost cried

  • Dircil

But can we have him for the semi-final? I’m worried about it big times!!!

  • Kris

Adrian actually seems to be knowing what he is doing now and has started getting a little better. I am praying and hoping costa will be fine for the semis, and if he isn’t cholo knows what he will do. Animo Costa. Forza Atleti!

  • AaX

Translation: Luckily Diego Costa has only a wound after hitting pole. (JUST A GASH) Somebody have used up his/her lucky charm for this. I replayed it all over and over again then pause. It was a huge potentially end of season injury. NO MORE Heroics THAT IS stupid after this Costa!! You almost have our hearts sank. That what you get for missing the penalty, messing with your emotion. LEARN and BETTER ! Vamos Atleti ! THANK GOD! Peace

  • Kris

I fully agree with AAX. Winning, losing, scoring, missing they are all part of the game. We saw Costa’s emotions boiling when he was frustrated and pushed down a Getafe player. Could have gotten a red card right there too. He needs to keep it calm and collected and don’t let his emotions out easily like that. Anyways, I am glad he scored the goal even though he really didn’t need to. Costa when he scored that goal today is a perfect example of Simeone’s men; men with balls of steel. Nothing will keep us down. Aupa Atleti!
