Not even Thibaut Courtois himself could have predicted his loan spell at Atlético Madrid would be as successful as it has been. On Sunday, the 21-year-old added another prize to his cabinet after receiving the Trofeo Zamora for his performances last season.
Courtois was handed the Zamora award after allowing only 29 goals in last year’s Liga BBVA campaign, conceding the fewest goals of all ‘keepers in Spain’s top division who qualified for the category.
We are positive the #Thibauting campaign was the biggest source of inspiration behind Tibu’s impressive performances for the Rojiblancos this past year. Speaking of which, don’t forget to vote for Thibauting here!
With his 21 years of age, the Belgian became the youngest ‘keeper to win the award, and the sixth in Atlético history.
This season, Courtois is well on his way to claim the Zamora for a second time, leading all goalkeepers with an impressive 0,60 rate.
Other winners at MARCA’s award show included Leo Messi (“Pichichi”, La Liga’s topscorer), Álvaro Negredo (Spanish top scorer) and Carlos Velasco Carballo (best referee). Cristiano Ronaldo won the Trofeo Di Stéfano after being elected best player of the Liga BBVA 2012-2013.
