Mérida out for at least two weeks

The Catalan starlet is a strong doubt for our second round match against Athletic

Atletico Madrid player Fran Merida

According to several reports in the Spanish media, Fran Mérida, who was set to start in yesterday’s encounter with Sporting, is out for two weeks with a hip injury.

Originally listed in manager Quique Sánchez Flores’ starting XI for our la Liga opener, the Catalan broke down prior to kickoff and was removed from the squad, missing out on what was to be his debut at the Vicente Calderón.

The gifted young midfielder, who led the scoring charts for Atleti in pre-season with 3 goals, is a strong doubt for our second round match at San Mamés against Athletic Bilbao on September 12.

Los rojiblancos will be hoping to get the former Arsenal man back soon, as there are currently only two natural wingers at Quique’s disposal in Reyes and Simão.

The international break will give Mérida more time to recover from the muscle tear, and he could return to action for the start of Atlético’s Europa League campaign against Aris.

Can’t sell Jurado and not buy anyone to replace him. We will be quite thin on wings if no one is brought in. Good thign Simao and Reyes have no history of injury problems…

i agree with u we must sign a player cuz we dont have enough playmakers and i hope that player would be Cazorla !!

Does the spanish window close at midnight because if it does we need to sign Misimovic and Rod Fanni

I’d be really happy abotu Misimovic, saw Wolfsburg play earlier this year and when he came on half way through tehy started to tear it up.

Misimovic gone to Galatasary but Arda may be going to Atleti to replace Jurado. FORZA Atleti
