Atlético are on the road this Saturday to face Real Valladolid on the fifth match day of the season. Kick-off at the José Zorrilla is scheduled for 22:00 CET.

The Rojiblancos have so far enjoyed a perfect start to La Liga, with four victories in four games, and they hit the ground running in the Champions League with a victory over Zenit on Wednesday.

They’ll look to continue their strong form this Saturday against La Pucela, whom they beat both home and away in their past Liga campaign.

During his press conference on Friday, Colchonero boss Diego Simeone commented on his team’s development during his tenure.

“I think the growth of the team in the past one-and-a-half years is important and it’s based on confidence, awareness, stability, and the renewals. This is a more complete team,” Cholo said.

“If you look at our first game in Málaga and the current ones, we’ve grown in our combination play, in our approach to certain games, but we always remain very similar, with clear ideas, respecting the club’s history.”

But he warned that his words would be meaningless if Atleti don’t perform against Real Valladolid, arguing that “any team can win” in La Liga, thanks to the “characteristics of their players”.

Speaking after his side’s training session on Friday, Real Valladolid coach Juan Ignacio Martínez praised La Liga leaders Atleti for the “conviction and intensity” with which they play their games.

JIM also had some kind words for a certain Colchonero player with whom he worked during his time at Albacete, then in the Segunda División.

“I was fortunate to be with Diego Costa at Albacete. You want him on your team, never on the opposition. He’s a potent player, who’s in very good form and rested.”

The Rojiblanco top scorer, who couldn’t participate in his team’s Champions League opener due to suspension, will be take part in the game on Saturday.

Vice-captain Tiago missed out on Atlético’s midweek game as well, with muscular problems, but the Portuguese shook them off in time to participate in training on Friday.

This leaves Adrián as the only absentee, after he broke his cheekbone against Zenit. The Spaniard successfully underwent surgery the day after and is expected to be out of action for three weeks.

For Real Valladolid, midfielders Álvaro Rubio and Víctor Pérez, and forward Larsson all won’t appear on Saturday due to injury, while a decision on defender Marc Valiente’s inclusion will be made at the last minute.

Atlético match selection:

Goalkeepers: Courtois, Bono
Defenders: Godín, Filipe, Alderweireld, Manquillo, Juanfran, Miranda
Midfielders: Mario, Tiago, Koke, Raúl García, Arda, Cebolla, Gabi, Óliver
Forwards: Villa, Diego Costa, Baptistão

Referee: Álvarez Izquierdo

  • Pantic#10

Where’s Insua? he should replace Filipe Luis and let him resting.
Insua since his arrive (last january) played only a couple of matches….

  • kris

This is an away game, guys, and away games are difficult at times even if it is against Valladolid. Insua will do pretty well, if he starts today, and I will be happy for the guy,, but I don’t think we should be changing our defense when we are playing away, rather our offense, I say play Oliver in place of Koke, CR7 in place of Arda, and Joshua in place of Mario.. The attack should be Costa-Villa, and maybe take out Villa in the 60th minute and put in Leo, and then sub out Oliver and CR7 for Koke and Arda. Because, they will still need a little bit of playing time to stay match fit.

  • Kabir

    CR7? I think you mean CR11 lol.

  • AJ

    lol CR19?

    Cebolla?

  • kris

No, we bought CR7 from Los Blancos for 1 million.. Yehh,, ahha, i meant CR11, he is number 7 for Uruguay, that’s why ahha,, it just sounds better that we have CR7… AJ, you got confused with his old number as well..

  • Pantic#10

just to have more confusion….tonight i’ll play with:
    TC13
    J20 – M23 – DG2 – FL3
    K6 – T5 – G14 – RG8
    DG19 – V9

it took me an hour to write this post ahahah

  • kris

Holy Shieett!! Raul Garcia does about almost nothing until the 55th minute, and then scores after two straight corner kick attempts.. This guy is so unpredictable don’t know if to hate him or love him..

  • colchonero in sf

    My boy Raul Golcia!!!!

  • Pantic#10

Damn… i knew i should choose Raoul Garcia as first scorer again!
Is Villa injured? seems so…muscular problem.
we’re playing better in 2nd half; 1st half we had less lucidity and Valladolid was more solid.

  • Pantic#10

    BANG! Diego Costa.
    super assist by Koke!

  • kris

71′,,, GOOOOOOOOLL DE DIEGO COSTA!! COSTA ACCELERATES FROM A WONDERFUL OVER THE TOP PASS FROM KOKE OVER THE TOP AND SCORESSS!!! ONLY MESSI HAS SCORED MORE GOALS THAN COSTA THIS SEASON, AND THAT’S ALSO ONLY BY 1 GOAL!

  • kris

Pantic, I didn’t even know if Villa was playing today.. He was totally invisible.. Really, maybe because he was hurt or something, but he was invisible.

  • Pantic#10

Leo “Quicksilver” Baptistao is extremely fast and skilled.
    great purchase.

  • Pantic#10

@Kris: yes, pretty anonymous match by Villa.
Next Wednesday match against Osasuna, Diego Costa and Leo from the 1st minute! The brazilian duo!
