Alberto Perea, not to be confused with centre back Luis Amaranto, was one of the big surprises in Atlético’s pre-season. He scored a beautiful solo goal against Betis and also netted in our friendly against Alcalá.
But after the first few games Quique started working with his strongest eleven and Perea had to settle for a place on the bench. Although it doesn’t come as a surprise, Atlético today confirmed that Perea has gone back to Atlético B and will join the squad for their first league game.
Today Atlético’s second-side open their season against Getafe B in the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez Muñoz. All players have been selected, except for the injured Sebastián Gallegos.
The absence of the highly rated Uruguayan is bad news for coach Antonio Rivas, as he doesn’t have many options up front. The coach however is optimistic at the start of the season:
“We’ve got a new but enthusiastic group. Our goals are clear; we want to deliver players that are ready to play in the first team. But we also want to have a team with an identity, a clear playing style, and to play for the win from the first minute on.”
Rivas doesn’t seem worried by the inconsistent results of his boys in pre-season.
“A team isn’t constructed in just a month. In the line-up against Getafe B, we’ll most likely have just two players from last season.”
“It’s obvious that the results haven’t been good. During our preparation I’ve seen areas that the team has to work on, we can’t play focused for the full 90 minutes. But we have worked hard to correct our mistakes. That’s what the pre-season is for. I think the team is ready for our match against Getafe B.”
