It has been a little over a month since our new defender, Martín Demichelis, signed a one year contract with the club.

During the presentation his words were nothing but praise for Atleti: “You can’t say no to a winning team like Atlético de Madrid.”

However, in the past weeks there have been heavy rumours that Manchester City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, came to Madrid with the task of signing a new central defender for the Manchester Blues.

AS reported that the three players that Begiristain was looking at were Real Madrid’s Pepe, and Atleti’s Miranda and Demichelis.

It seems as if Txiki has decided on Atleti’s new No. 24.

There has been speculation as to why Demichelis, and the most plausible answer is simply: Pellegrini.

Back in Málaga, he was Pellegrini’s key defender, and they both see the benefit of being able to work with each other again.

Several reports are stating that Martín is all set to swap the Manzanares club for rainy Manchester. It is, however, difficult to ascertain whether they hold water, as Demichelis has made no public statements regarding this second summer transfer as of yet.

The press, however, are pushing the story as a reality, with MARCA reporting that Atleti is asking for five million euros for the defender.

If Demichelis does end up leaving the club, would you feel that the club has made a good deal? Who would you like to see as his replacement?

I mean, it’s free fucking money. Although, he would need to be replaced of course….

  • Alex21

If he leaves for any price I’ll be happy. Especially if we can find an even cheaper replacement than what we sell him for. Who? No idea.

  • kris

You should leave but for no less than 5 million.

  • piserakos

sell him for those 5 millions…
2 options, 1) buy arizmenti he will probably cost about 8mill
    2) bring back cata(i’m kidding) we have scouts who can find someone like demi who will not cost us a lot of money, one name? mellberg

  • kris

I would much rather have Ljajic,, Arizmendi is good, but not good enoughh.

  • Epoy

signed for free and only for a 1 year contract then leaves for 5 million, that would be an outstanding piece of business as long as we can find a replacement

  • palc

    Are you kidding me? Arizmendi???

  • arjit

Arizmendi is a very average player, no thanks. Rather give canteneros a chance

I’ve read that Atleti asked for 5 million to sell Demichelis to Man City,

some could say it will be the best 5 million the club have ever earned .. selling a player you have signed for free just a month ago and for only one season, that means he is anyway leaving the next season, but for free

    but in my opinion :
is 5 million worthy to jeopardize 30 million by missing CL spot because we don’t have a back up CD ?!

  • kris

I really don’t think Demichelis would be able to offer us that much. If you had watched some of the pre season matches, you would know that he has completely lost his pace and even a player that’s 20 yards away from the ball vs him 10 yards away from the ball, the one from 20 yards will win. He is not that good in set piece defending either,, but he does have KEY experience, but I don’t know this will be great business and I know we can find another player like Demi for free or at least for very cheap, so I say do this! Plus we have our Jose Gimenez, but the only thing he lacks is experience.

5 mill is not a lot, but for a little more ( 7-8) a would consider it. The perfect replacement would according to me be found in napolis Federico Fernandez. He has not been a success in Napoli and with the new signings he will definitely be easy to get. Perfect age, a few years of european experience and a regular starter in Argentinas national team. He was also really good last year on loan to Getafe so he is already familiar with la liga and Madrid. A loan with a buy-out clause would be perfect! And great business!
