It has been a little over a month since our new defender, Martín Demichelis, signed a one year contract with the club.
During the presentation his words were nothing but praise for Atleti: “You can’t say no to a winning team like Atlético de Madrid.”
However, in the past weeks there have been heavy rumours that Manchester City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, came to Madrid with the task of signing a new central defender for the Manchester Blues.
AS reported that the three players that Begiristain was looking at were Real Madrid’s Pepe, and Atleti’s Miranda and Demichelis.
It seems as if Txiki has decided on Atleti’s new No. 24.
There has been speculation as to why Demichelis, and the most plausible answer is simply: Pellegrini.
Back in Málaga, he was Pellegrini’s key defender, and they both see the benefit of being able to work with each other again.
Several reports are stating that Martín is all set to swap the Manzanares club for rainy Manchester. It is, however, difficult to ascertain whether they hold water, as Demichelis has made no public statements regarding this second summer transfer as of yet.
The press, however, are pushing the story as a reality, with MARCA reporting that Atleti is asking for five million euros for the defender.
If Demichelis does end up leaving the club, would you feel that the club has made a good deal? Who would you like to see as his replacement?
