The Spanish Football Federation has announced the squad to play Ecuador in a friendly next week, and it is the first senior selection to include Atlético Madrid’s own youngster, Koke.
Our No. 6 is the only Rojiblanco included in the travelling party, and it represents a great achievement for a player who has played for the Spanish side at every other level so far.
Del Bosque announced that he would be looking to bring some new blood into the national side following their heavy defeat to Brazil in the Confederations Cup final.
He has a great pool of talent to choose from, after seeing Koke and a young Spain team lift the European U21 Championships in Israel back in June.
Speaking at a press conference held before the championships, Del Bosque told AtléticoFans that “Koke is a player that we have placed a lot of hope in.”
The U21s did themselves a power of good, and uncapped Koke is among four players called up to represent Spain at the highest level.
Del Bosque indicated that the upcoming game against Ecuador was an important match, one that would help him pick a team to play Finland when the World Cup qualifiers resume in September.
“We have turned to those who made us champions with the U21s,” he said.
“Koke is playing very well for his club. He is very complete in his job in the midfield doing, practically, everything.”
Our young star is bound to be delighted after being given the opportunity to earn his first cap.
