Who wouldn't mind some lovin' from the 'Beast'?

Atlético continued efforts to trim their squad this week, with more loan deals having been confirmed on Monday and Tuesday.

Newly-promoted Villarreal will make their return to Primera action with Sergio Asenjo between the sticks, while Atleti cantera jewel Saúl Ñíguez has already suited up for our neighbours Rayo Vallecano just a day after a one-year loan agreement between the two clubs had been reached for the midfielder.

The Yellow Submarine will take Asenjo on for one season with an option to purchase the goalie upon the conclusion of the upcoming campaign. The 24-year-old is expected to nab the starting job following several seasons of obscurity at Atleti that resulted from poor play, injuries and stiff competition.

The former Valladolid man was spotted bidding teammates farewell in street clothes at the Cerro del Espino training facility Tuesday by AS.

According to the Spanish paper, several goalkeepers are being looked at by Rojiblanco front office personnel to serve as Thibaut Courtois’ backup in 2013/14: Andrés (Osasuna), Moyá (Getafe) and Aranzubía (Deportivo).

Meanwhile, youth academy starlets Óliver and Manquillo were handed their first team squad numbers on Tuesday — No. 16 and No. 17, respectively –a sign that they aren’t expected to be shown the door anytime soon.

Glad Asenjo has the ability to play first team football. And absolutely love love LOVE the new number changes. May just have to get one now….

Defo getting Oliver on the home top now!

Costa or Baptistao on the away!

  • kris

Oliver 16, Saul 17. Damn, if I hadn’t already ordered them, I probably would have got Oliver too.

  • kris

If you read Oliver’s interview yesterday, he said the 70% of Oliver is because of Simeone. Oliver appreciates and loves Simeone, and Cholo also knows Oliver’s potential, that’s why he’s giving him chances. Oliver also said, smaller steps are better than big steps and that whenever Simeone puts him in the match, he says go out there and enjoy, kid.

Really, Oliver is gonna be big in a couple of years. This kid’s our future, and we have to treat him really good.

  • Nick_Gr

I read that we are close to get Roberto from Zaragoza as a back up for Courtois.

@Kris: Could you post a link with Oliver’s interview?

  • Alex21

Oliver is our future for sure. Hopefully he will get the playing time he needs this year to really develop. I think with no more additions made in the attacking midfield, he will definitely get his opportunity.

  • Will

We sold Roberto for 8.5m euros and Benfica sold him to Zaragoza for similar amount. How much will we spend to get him back? I would rather remain with Joel as Courtois backup with some playing minutes considering it has to be his last season with us.

  • kris

Joel signed for Everton dude. @Nick, I read the interview in Spanish on one of my friends on twitter. I don’t know where it was publicized. Sorry:((. If I find, I will let you know.
    @Alex I agree.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

what are you talking about Will ?!
Joel is now an Everton player !

and Nick, here is a link for Oliver interview you asked about,
    but it’s in Spanish

I wrote a comment last night about Bono, the Moroccan goalie of Atletico B and how he could play for the first team in the future
well, AS suggests that the future is this season !

they are saying that Atleti are trying to sign Roberto, then loan him to Olympiacos for a year, and Yassine Bounou will be the 2nd goalkeeper this season

  • kris

How about David Gil,tho? Will he get any chances at all?

  • Nick_Gr

    Ahmad thanks for the link.
The greek sites report that it is a matter of time to sign Roberto (if we haven’t already) and then loan him to Olympiacos.

  • Silchas

so we exchange 50% of the right of Roberto, which are curiously still held by benfica, for the right of Pizzi. Roberto will be on loan to Olympiakos for one year to play in CL and Bono get in the first team to be second goalkeeper. So we start with David Gil in the second.
Not the worst deal to make, but unfortunately that means that Courtois will certainly return to Chelsea after this season.

  • starvs

Courtios being at Atleti past this year was nothing more than a pipe dream to begin with, unfortunately.

  • Silchas

number two means that he will only play games if courtois is injured or exhausted, what is rather very unlikely for a goalkeeper

  • starvs

    knock on wood.

  • kris

Yes,, Silchas but goalkeepers need rests too. Since we are gonna be playing so many matches this upcoming season, I think Bono will playing a lot of Copa matches and MAYBE some Liga matches.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

    @Silchas you summarized it all
    great post !
