It looked as if Atlético’s bid to sign Rod Fanni was dead in the water after we signed Diego Godín from Villarreal and Filipe Luis from Deportivo. The deal to sign the Frenchman from Stade Rennais looked to be stalling over Rennes’ refusal to let the transfer go ahead without the relevant bank guarantees.
However reports in France today suggest the move is back on. L’Equipe is reporting that a bank guarantee has finally been obtained and that the French international could be making his way to Madrid in the coming days to finalise an agreement.
The right-back is rated as one of the best in Ligue 1, France’s top division, and he made his desire to move to Madrid clear. The defender looked set to stay at the Route de Lorient, where he caught the eye last year and was named in the Ligue’s Team of the Season.
Negotiations between Atlético and Rennes have been ongoing for weeks. We reported all the way back on July 11 that a deal had been struck for €4.5m.
As always though, this has been the most unpredictable deal of the summer, and AtléticoFans.com will keep you up-to-date with any developments involving the 28 year-old. And without a pun in sight.
Update 18 August 2010
Sources in the Spanish media claim that a deal for Fanni will not happen unless both Perea and Juanito leave the club, which is unlikely. Stay tuned!
