According to various media, Atlético could soon announce their third signing of the summer, Málaga midfielder Jérémy Toulalan.

The Frenchman, who’ll turn 30 in September, has been pursued for months by the Rojiblancos, who are keen to exploit his current club’s precarious financial situation.

A three-year contract with Toulalan has reportedly already been agreed, as well as a transfer fee of five-and-a-half million euros.

And according to COPE, the deal will be completed once Atleti and Málaga settle on a payment structure; the Andalusians want a lump sum payment, while the Madrileños prefer to pay in installments.

A versatile defensive midfielder, also capable of playing at central defence, Toulalan has both the quality and the Champions League experience that the Colchoneros are after.

Diego Ribas to return at last?

In a recent interview with MARCA, Rojiblanco boss Cholo Simeone admitted he has requested the signing of Diego Ribas, whose return he considers key to his club’s ambitions.

And according to the same newspaper, personal terms have already been agreed by Atlético with their former loanee, whom they were unable to tie down permanently last year.

The Brazilian midfielder won the Europa League and narrowly missed out on a top-four finish during his first loan spell with the Colchoneros.

And eager to return and join Atlético for their Champions League campaign, he has reportedly accepted a reduced salary, though one that would still place him among the top Rojiblanco earners.

Diego only has one year left on his contract with wealthy Wolfsburg, which he won’t extend. Atlético hope this will lower the transfer fee, which they’ve yet to agree.

if it’s true it will be a great signing, and a smart one

the smart signing is the only way to get something from the crazy, expensive and scary inflated players market (thanks to Russian Tycoons and our idiot Arab Sheikhs)

smart signing is an important quality of any coach and sporting manager, and I believe both Simeone and Caminero have this quality, especially Simeone

I’ll never forget the signings of 2007-08 & 2008-09 seasons .. especially the last one when Atleti was the biggest spender in the transfer market in La Liga with about 70 million euros for a bunch of some crappy players who did not give any thing for the club : Grégory Coupet, John Heitinga, Tomas Ujfaluši, Paulo Assunção, and some could say Sinama-Pongolle who actually did not take many chances because Forlan and Aguero, but we bought him with 10 million then sold him after one year with 6 !!

when we speak about smart signing we must mention F.C.Porto, the smartest club ever in the transfer market, we should learn from them .. this the only way to stay alive in totally unfair fight.

I hope both arrive. Our Midfield would be awesome !!

So, when does the season start?

I stated this in the other thread, but I’d actually prefer making a move for Montpellier’s Younes Belhanda (we’ve been loosely linked with him) over Diego; he’s much younger, requires lower wages, got a taste for the Champions League this past year, and comes with a game that would fit in nice and comfortably in Spanish football to boot.

Maybe? It would be a simple swap Costa pushing further forward and Belhanda sitting in behind them. Everything else stays the same from late this last season.

@Legggoooo in the last 2 years Belhanda was linked every summer with Atleti but nothing happen, he is very good player, but I believe this year he is going to Olympique Marseille

but we have another option: the Egyptian Mohammad Salah, FC Basel winger, he is very good dribeller, goal scorer, fast, young (20) and most importantly: he is affordable (10 million, maybe less)

You can’ make much wrong with an expierenced player like Toulalan for less money plus he can also play as CB and is much more reliable than Cata.

  • Kaminero

In an interview with a German newspaper Diego says there is no agreement with Atlético and he is prepared to start the preseason with Wolfsburg.

I just learned that we signed Jesus Gamez from Malaga. I don’t know why we would sign a right back when we are desperately in need of a center back. Cata Diaz was such a waste.

I hope Diego comes back. We will be unstoppable.
Diego Costa, Arda, Diego Ribas, Koke, Adrian. This attack will be beast!

Looks like Courtois is going to be our goalkeeper next season 😀 great news
