According to various media, Atlético could soon announce their third signing of the summer, Málaga midfielder Jérémy Toulalan.
The Frenchman, who’ll turn 30 in September, has been pursued for months by the Rojiblancos, who are keen to exploit his current club’s precarious financial situation.
A three-year contract with Toulalan has reportedly already been agreed, as well as a transfer fee of five-and-a-half million euros.
And according to COPE, the deal will be completed once Atleti and Málaga settle on a payment structure; the Andalusians want a lump sum payment, while the Madrileños prefer to pay in installments.
A versatile defensive midfielder, also capable of playing at central defence, Toulalan has both the quality and the Champions League experience that the Colchoneros are after.
Diego Ribas to return at last?
In a recent interview with MARCA, Rojiblanco boss Cholo Simeone admitted he has requested the signing of Diego Ribas, whose return he considers key to his club’s ambitions.
And according to the same newspaper, personal terms have already been agreed by Atlético with their former loanee, whom they were unable to tie down permanently last year.
The Brazilian midfielder won the Europa League and narrowly missed out on a top-four finish during his first loan spell with the Colchoneros.
And eager to return and join Atlético for their Champions League campaign, he has reportedly accepted a reduced salary, though one that would still place him among the top Rojiblanco earners.
Diego only has one year left on his contract with wealthy Wolfsburg, which he won’t extend. Atlético hope this will lower the transfer fee, which they’ve yet to agree.
