The disciplinary committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has rescinded the yellow card that Diego Costa received last Sunday against Sevilla.

Consequently, the Atlético forward will be available for his team’s vital derby clash with Real Madrid this Saturday.

According to referee González González’ report, Diego Costa was penalized for “knocking down his opponent [Sevilla’s Kondogbia] when challenging for the ball.”

The yellow card, his tenth of the season, would have led to an automatic one-game suspension for the Brazilian.

However, video evidence disproved that Diego Costa had committed a foul and hence the Rojiblancos launched a successful appeal against the decision.

Tiago returns to training

Colchonero vice-captain Tiago Mendes returned to training on Wednesday after a lengthy absence.

The Portuguese midfielder has been out of action since February, when he broke his arm in the semi-final of the Copa del Rey.

He recovered quickly from that injury, but additional muscular discomfort has kept him on the sidelines until this week.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone indicated Tiago will be a part of the squad that faces the Merengues.

“Tiago trained with us and I imagine that on Saturday he may accompany us too,” he said after training.

Arda continues recovery

Tiago’s return means the only remaining absentee is Arda Turan. The Turkish midfielder is still recovering from the ankle sprain he suffered last month against Valencia.

Cholo was cautious about Arda: “Arda is coming along and hopefully he can continue to improve. We’ll see on Friday.”

They might also take a trip to Azerbaijan’s capital Kabu with the rest of the team tuesday morning. There they will play a friendly match against a local side and Simeone will train some of the countries most promissing young players. This is a great way to get Atléti, the brand, out there! Altough the timing in my opinion isn’t the best. The squad will be home in Madrid wednsday morning. This is also a fine chance see out some of the more untested, maybe we’ll even see our new uruguyan signing play his first match for the club.
    Aupa Atléti!

thus is the 2nd yellow card for an Atleti player that Disciplinary Committee has rescinded within 3 weeks (after Godin’s vs Getafe)

Good job from the committee, but Very Bad job from its referees !

Still think Adrian should start, he was impressive in the games against Madrid last season and he’s more skilful than Costa. We should bring on Costa in the second half, as a battering ram against Madrid’s tired defenders (especially if Pepe or Ramos are on yellow cards then) like in the 1-0 win against Betis a few months ago.

Costa makes them angry as hell. They would make mistakes. He should start, Adrian from the bench.

  • Mahmoud

He definitely does, but at the Bernabeu, it didn’t really work, neither were sent off (although Ramos and Costa both could’ve seen red) and the team never started playing.

I don’t think Tiago should be in the lineup. We have proven we can win without him, i don’t see a point in having him in uniform. I have really enjoyed how our midfield play has been the last few weeks, and with a rusty player coming into the formation, he can cause mistakes which ultimately can’t be made to a merciless Madrid side.

Ronaldo isn’t on the bench or lineup for Real Madrid. Real Madrid are definitely going to rest many players for the Champions League so this is the best opportunity to win.
