Atlético boss Diego Simeone is gearing his men up for their upcoming visit to Getafe on Sunday, a match in which he will be without crucial midfielder Arda Turan.

The Turk suffered a grade II ankle sprain in this past weekend’s home game against Valencia, and has been ruled out for the short trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Simeone was asked if Óliver Torres, who fans have been clamouring for since the start of the season, will be given a chance to showcase his talents in replacement of the injured former Galatasaray man.

“He’s one option among the 20 that we have on the team,” ‘El Cholo’ replied, apparently not willing to commit to the youngster just yet.

The Argentine then laid out his expectations of his squad for the remainder of the campaign.

“We hope to maintain the intensity we’ve shown throughout the entire season through today,” he said.

“That will allow us to continue to compete in each game and aspire to add up the highest amount of points, which will help us achieve the objective we want.”

Cholo continued: “Knowing the group, I know they are ambitious and have important and clear goals ahead. We can’t allow ourselves to look past Getafe, because the Spanish league has taught us that danger lies in any stadium, and every opponent has great players.

“We saw that on Monday when Getafe visited Betis. They played a tough game, with players in the midfield up with a lot of talent and great at set pieces.”

With regard to whether he felt that once Champions League qualification is clinched canteranos should be given more playing time, Simeone said: “I want to win. I don’t think about anything else. The only thing that the people want is for the team to win, regardless of who plays.

“I always say that when one is in 15th place in the table, one wants to move up to 14th. And when one is in fourth, one wants to move up to third. You always want to advance. We want to finish in the highest position possible.”

I hope Oliver gets his chance, but it’s hard to tell if the full 90 minutes right away is a good decision.
It worked for Camacho, but one can’t tell.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up to high if I was you regarding his playing time this season. Simeone told in an interview lately that his goals as an Atleti coach will be: the youth system and Champions league. So don’t think that he has forgotten or lost trust in the young ones! I believe that he used this season to get the three most promissing youngsters (You know it’s Oli, Saul and Manquillo(man killer)) in under the first team. So they already are Confident with their new teammates at the start of next season where they’ll hopefully make their breaktrough. Another reason for their lack of playing time could be that he wants to hide them a bid from the spotlight and therefore also remove some of the hipe from them. He does that perfectly by letting them train with the first team and play for the B side. It is although hard for me to understand why he uses them as subs, but won’t play them at the first team…

This match will be though.. especially without Arda. Getafe is doing it very well this season, they may still qualify for Europe League if they keep this up.
