After going two games without a win, Atlético Madrid have returned to their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Osasuna.
Diego Costa celebrated his 100th La Liga appearance with a brace and Man of the Match honours.
Osasuna looked dangerous early on as Oier headed wide and Masoud curled his free kick just inches past the post.
After half an hour Atlético took the lead. Koke escaped the offside trap with a great diagonal run and squared the ball for Diego Costa who scored his own rebound after Andrés blocked his first attempt.
It was a moment exactly as Simeone loves them in games on the road. After soaking up the pressure in the opening 30 minutes, Atleti got out quickly and converted with their first attempt on goal.
Immediately after the goal Thibaut Courtois pulled off an amazing save to deny Oier and a minute later Masoud headed just wide. It would be a recurring theme throughout the match, with Osasuna threatening through headers but constantly finding Courtois in their way. In the added time of the first half the Belgian stopped another two tries from Oier to help his team maintain a minimal lead.
That lead was extended shortly after the break when Diego Costa tapped in Koke’s inviting cross from close range. With his second goal Costa seemed on his way to repeat his performance from two seasons ago, when he scored his one and only La Liga hat-trick at the Reyno de Navarra.
He came very close after he was put through on goal by Arda Turan, but Costa shot straight at the excellent Andrés Fernández. The Brazilian would later leave the game due to what appeared to be an ankle injury and might be a doubt for his first ever call-up to the Brazilian national team.
Andrés did well to block shots by Falcao, Koke and Cebolla, while Courtois continued to deny Oier and his teammates.
Atlético comfortably played out the remainder of the game and will now enjoy a week off due to the upcoming international break.
