Cabrera joins Recreativo on loan

The defender could possibly debut against Atlético

As expected, Leandro Cabrera won’t be wearing the red-and-white shirt this season after Recreativo managed to wrap up a deal that will see him spend the season on loan with them.

Recreativo de Huelva’s official website announced today that the two clubs have reached an agreement by which the young Uruguayan defender will be loaned to Recreativo for the upcoming season. The player will be officially presented on Monday, but could make a debut for his new club this Saturday against Badajoz.

The announcement does not mention an option for Recre to purchase Cabrera, so we assume there isn’t.

If Lele doesn’t debut tomorrow, then he very well might against Atlético. Both teams participate in the Trofeo Colombino which is played next week.

Cabrera saw his playing time limited at the Vicente Calderón after making only four appearances for Atlético last season and will be hopeful of seeing a lot more action for El Decano in the Segunda División.

The Uruguayan’s departure partially solves Atlético’s problems, as it opens up a non-EU spot.

Cabrera most likely won’t be the last defender to leave this summer. As we reported earlier, centre back Juanito is being linked to both Levante and his former club Real Betis, and is the likeliest of candidates to follow Lele out.

Excellent move I think, although I would’ve preferred to see him in action in la Liga. Hopefully he’ll get a chance as a centre back in Huelva, because I feel that’s his natural position.

I wonder if Ibra will follow him, there are some rumours that Recre is interested in our striker as well

Yeah, this should be good news for Lele. I think a lot of people were doubtful of his existence last season for a while, until he finally appeared in the final weeks.

I was impressed by the little I saw of him. But yeah, being 3rd or 4th in the pecking order was really going to stunt his development. He probably won’t have to worry at all about getting playing time in Huelva.
