Tomorrow at 19.00 (GMT+1) Atlético will play a friendly against Real Mallorca on the Balearic Island.
The teams face off in the 35th edition of the Trofeo Ciudad de Palma, which is played in the ONO Estadi, commonly known as Son Moix.
This will be Atleti’s sixth friendly this pre-season, but the first one where coach Quique Sánchez Flores has everyone available, after Diego Godín and Diego Forlán joined the team this week.
However, the latter might miss this match because of an injury. The club hasn’t released the match selection yet, but Spanish media report that Forlán and Domínguez are injured. The forward apparently has blisters on his feet, while Domínguez worked in the gym today after suffering a minor knee injury in the Spain U21 match against Finland. The duo should be available for the Trofeo Colombino, in which we will play Sporting Gijón coming Wednesday.
More interesting are the absences of Juanito, Cabrera, Keko and Ibrahima. We reported earlier that Juanito is on his way to Levante, and today Marca tells us Real Betis have also contacted their former captain to convince him of a possible return.
The trio of Keko, Cabrera and Ibrahima were left out of the European Super Cup squad and will most likely be loaned out this season. It seems Cabrera and Ibrahima will join Recreativo for one season.
The 22 players Quique did select, according to AS, are:
Goal: Joel, De Gea
Defence: Ujfalusi, Valera, Perea, Pulido, Godín, López, Filipe
Midfield: Reyes, Perea, Assunção, Raúl García, Camacho, Koke, Mario, Simão, Mérida, Jurado
Attack: Diego Costa, Agüero, Salvio
Diego Godín and Jorge Pulido are new in the list, while it’s interesting to note that Alberto Perea was picked over Keko.
The Super Cup match against Inter is exactly two weeks away, but now with Forlán and Domínguez absent it’s unlikely we’ll be able to see our best starting XI.
Which eleven players would you like to see against Mallorca?
