We've been invited to play the Trofeo Ciudad de Palma

Tomorrow at 19.00 (GMT+1) Atlético will play a friendly against Real Mallorca on the Balearic Island.

The teams face off in the 35th edition of the Trofeo Ciudad de Palma, which is played in the ONO Estadi, commonly known as Son Moix.

This will be Atleti’s sixth friendly this pre-season, but the first one where coach Quique Sánchez Flores has everyone available, after Diego Godín and Diego Forlán joined the team this week.

However, the latter might miss this match because of an injury. The club hasn’t released the match selection yet, but Spanish media report that Forlán and Domínguez are injured. The forward apparently has blisters on his feet, while Domínguez worked in the gym today after suffering a minor knee injury in the Spain U21 match against Finland. The duo should be available for the Trofeo Colombino, in which we will play Sporting Gijón coming Wednesday.

More interesting are the absences of Juanito, Cabrera, Keko and Ibrahima. We reported earlier that Juanito is on his way to Levante, and today Marca tells us Real Betis have also contacted their former captain to convince him of a possible return.

The trio of Keko, Cabrera and Ibrahima were left out of the European Super Cup squad and will most likely be loaned out this season. It seems Cabrera and Ibrahima will join Recreativo for one season.

The 22 players Quique did select, according to AS, are:

Goal: Joel, De Gea
Defence: Ujfalusi, Valera, Perea, Pulido, Godín, López, Filipe
Midfield: Reyes, Perea, Assunção, Raúl García, Camacho, Koke, Mario, Simão, Mérida, Jurado
Attack: Diego Costa, Agüero, Salvio

Diego Godín and Jorge Pulido are new in the list, while it’s interesting to note that Alberto Perea was picked over Keko.

The Super Cup match against Inter is exactly two weeks away, but now with Forlán and Domínguez absent it’s unlikely we’ll be able to see our best starting XI.

Which eleven players would you like to see against Mallorca?

  • Sash

I would have wanted Keko to get a chance, he has some experience from the liga bbva with valladolid and did a good tournament with the u-19. But on the other hand he is only 18 and maybe a loan is best for him.. But he should at least get a chance to compete for a spot!

  • Ringo Schut

Sash, maybe it’s because there’s already an agreement?

I’d like to see this formation:

    Ujfalusi – Godín – Pulido – Filipe
    (De Gea behind them)

This way we can already help the partnership on the right, between Godín and Ujfalusi. On the left it’s to get Filipe into it and Pulido needs his practice as well. Since we can’t test the Álvaro-Filipe partnership, it’s a good chance for Pulido to show himself.

    Reyes – Assunção – Koke – Fran

Koke to show that he might be more useful than García is, plus he didn’t have his chance before, I believe.
Reyes on the right and on the left we have competition between Mérida and Simão. I still hope the latter leaves and Fran can show he’s the better one of the two.
Paulo is probably going to start, I’d rather see Camacho – Koke, but I don’t think we’re going to see that partnership a lot this season. Maybe bring on Camacho in the second half, for Paulo.

    Salvio – Agüero

Salvio was only tested as right winger. This is his real position and he can be tested as a Forlán-sub, the second half will probably be for Costa.
I’d like to see Borja, but we all know he’s injured 🙁

  • Martin Rosenow

2 weeks from Monaco…I would hope that Quique would be going with as many of his starters as possible these last preseason games. Such a shame that we’ll have to wait for Forlán and Domínguez. I agree mostly with Ringo’s lineup but prefer to see Raul and Costa as opposed to Koke and Salvio, at least to begin with.

I’m still waiting for a passport miracle so that we can hold on to Costa.

  • Sash

Oh, I think I’ve missed something there, What is the agreement you’re talking about?

  • javi

Guys, as alway I ask, does anyone know where we can watch this game in the US either via tv or web?

  • Martin Rosenow

The best place to find online links to games is There aren’t any links to the game up yet, but if there will be, you will be able to find them there.

  • Andres

I’d like to see this eleven:

    ———–De Gea———-

later on I’d like to see also Alberto Perea and Salvio next to Aguero for Simao, Merida or Reyes…

  • 20corona

    Dont forget Tiago!! 😉

  • Nick Poskitt

The starting XI for this game is:

    De Gea
    Ujfalusi – Perea – Godín – A Lopez
    Camacho – Raul Garcia
Reyes – Jurado – Fran Merida

No Kun then following his injury, Salvio up top on his own!

  • Flo

    What injury does Kun have?

  • Nick Poskitt

It was more of a cold, slip of the keyboard… he came on and got a goal late on. Match report coming.
