This is an English translation exclusively available at Atlé of the interview with Atlético B-player Abián Serrano by

Serrano, a 20-year-old midfielder, joined Los Rojiblancos last summer after a two-year spell with Wigan Athletic. He transferred to the Latics in 2009 from Espanyol, but was unable to break into the first team under Spanish coach Roberto Martínez.

After it seemed he was set to move to Real Madrid in January, Abián actually joined Atleti as a free agent six months later.

Question: Thanks for doing this interview with us, did you know Atlético Madrid has fan clubs – even in Norway?
Abián: It’s a pleasure to do this interview for the fans in Norway. I didn’t know, but now I will follow all of you. Thanks for your support all the way from Norway!

Q: You’re with the Atleti B team this year. A very interesting team. The team looks strong on paper. Do you think this team is capable of winning promotion to the Liga Adelante?
A: We have a better team this year. I hope we can have a good season and be in the playoffs to try and fight for promotion. We have really good players.

Q: You’ve played for Wigan under Roberto Martínez for three years. What did you learn from your time in England?
A: Roberto Martinez is like a father for me, he is a really good person and a great coach. I learned a lot from him and the entire staff there. Of course I picked up on the language at the club, but in England I also learned to play fast with and without the ball. The football is quicker and more physical. I really enjoyed playing in England for three years.

Q: You are one of the new guys on this team, do you feel welcome and have the other team-mates taken good care of you so far?
A: Yes, I like this team, we are like a family! All my team-mates are good people, and obviously they’re good players too. We are all united and fighting for the same goal.

Q: This summer we’ve read a lot about 17-year-old Óliver Torres. Do you think he has what it takes to become a star?
A: I think he is a special player, he has a lot of talent. He is very young too, but he is already a fantastic player. I hope he gets the chance to play with the first team and do well. He will help us [Atlético B] a lot.

Q: Is there any player on Atlético Madrid you like especially as a player?
A: Of course I like Radamel Falcao, as a player and as a person. I also like Arda Turan, he is a class player!

Q: Personally, what are your favourite football team(s)?
A: Of course I love Atlético, because they gave me the chance to be a professional football player, and I like Barcelona too because they play really good football.

Q: There are some stories floating around the internet, suggesting that you were close to joining Real Madrid last summer. If that’s correct – then why pick Atlético Madrid?
A: No, no, I was still at Wigan, but Real Madrid made me an offer. Then Atlético made me an offer too and I preferred to play for Atlético, because they’re better for young players.
