Gil Marín reportedly makes big promise to Simeone

According to Spanish radio station COPE, Gil Marín says he will not sell trio of stars

Antonio Ruiz of Spanish radio station COPE’s ‘El Partido de las 12’ programme, claimed late Tuesday evening that while in Colombia, Atlético owner and general director Miguel Ángel Gil Marín promised Rojiblanco boss Diego Simeone that he would not be selling our superstar trio of Falcao, Adrián and Arda.

Ruiz also reported former Colchonero José Manuel Jurado, who’s return to the Vicente Calderón has been heavily speculated about in recent days, may not be coming back after all because of Schalke’s asking price.

Meanwhile, AS ran with a report early Wednesday morning claiming Schalke have accepted Atleti’s €5 million offer for Jurado, with only a few minor details said to be in the process of being hammered out.

The Spanish paper also states Jurado is eager for the deal to be closed, hoping the agreement is finalised as soon as possible.

Finally, Ruiz believes Diego Costa will be sold as there are a number of offers coming into Atleti headquarters for the Brazilian, who still does not hold a European passport.

  • Scott Lind

What?? Gil Marín makes a smart decision?? And don’t Think about money??

  • Urban

Still I would rather give up all onions, emres, jurados to have Diego on permanent basis….

  • Dircil

    @Urban: totally agree with u

  • mohamed fekry

    @urban totally agree !

  • Javi

I agree urban, but I hope we get proven wrong

  • rojiblanco93

According to AS and Spox.com ,we are close to sign Juardo back for about 5milion….

  • Yon

Whyyy? We NEED Diego! Jurado is like an offensive Perea, tries his best but on most occasions is a complete donkey!

Diego Lopez and Guardado have also both been snapped up! Its official that Caminero is a useless twat!

  • Well finally he is doing something good but too many midfielders in this squad thats Cebollo, Arda, Emre, Gabi, Jurado, Mario, Tiago and Salvio.

Actually thats a good amountnow that I think about it. If we use the 4-4-1-1 formation

  • rojiblanco93

Well, maybe Cholo wants to play a 1-2-6-2 formation …

  • Guero

I understand Jurado may not be the greatest player, and it sucks to lose Diego, but Marca reports that Jurado is taking a wage cut to join us, given our financial troubles. I can respect that.

  • rojiblanco93

Emre also earns less than he would in Turkey … 2,5 in Madrid, would he stay in Turkey he would earn 3,5

  • I guess this Jurado news are good.

I mean, it’s a good deal anyway (we sold him for €13 million!) and it shows Wolfsburg “we don’t need Diego that much, I pay a fair price not an insane one”. Probably the discount on the Diego’s price will worth it and we’ll get 2 good players for the position, a first team player and his immediate reserve.

Or I’m wrong and they completely forgot about Diego… I don’t think so but all this silence about a key player like Diego is a lot weird.

  • Edletico

I will not give up hope on Diego. He has 1 year left on his contract, surely Wolfsburg will take 5m rather than lose him for free next year. He loves Atleti and it would be very stupid to not get him but you never know with Gil

  • shay

Look, I think Jurado is great.. Diego is not staying, it’s pretty obvious. I was upset when Jurado left…

  • Sebyk

Diego is just lost guys, we gave up on him long time ago.
In one of his interviews, Gil Marín said that Atlético will attempt to keep all of their players from the starting 11 in Bucharest – except for Diego. There’s just no money to spare 🙁 Moreover Diego said some time ago that he has no offer from Atlético whatsoever and that we didn’t even try to contact him or his agent. It’s done. Time to face the truth and accept the fact that instead of investing into Diego, we brought Emre, Onion and probably will bring Jurado. Great shame, great disappointment…
By the way, the rumors with Diego’s contract running out in June 2013 are false. His contract in Wolfsburg expires in summer 2014, so no way that he’ll be joining us next year on a free transfer and no possibility to convince Wolfsburg to knock down the price a bit. And even if – our relationship with Wolfsburg management is horrible. Last summer Atlético and Wolfsburg bosses just argued all along, reportedly there were some insults and the whole Diego’s deal must have been concluded by intermediates hired by both clubs, because the boards just refused to talk.

  • Dircil

Then, we will not qualify for the CL next season. No playmaker like Diego means less chances for Falcao to score.

  • Ringo

Well, keeping the 4-2-2-2/4-2-3-1, the squad looks pretty good to me.
Are Tiago and Assuncao staying, though? Not sure if they’re needed anymore… Pretty convinced they’re not, actually.

    GK: Courtois, Asenjo
    RB: Juanfran, Silvio
    CB: Miranda, Dominguez, Pulido, (Botia/Godin?)
    LB: Filipe, Dominguez, Silvio
CM: Emre, Gabi, Koke, Mario, (Tiago/Garcia/Assuncao/Saul/Marcos?)
RW/LW/10: Salvio, Onion, Arda, Koke, Adrian (Jurado/Garcia/Kader?)
    ST: Falcao, Adrian, (Costa/Borja/Pedro?)

Perhaps another striker, but this already is a strong squad.

I like how Koke’s able to find Salvio, Salvio links up better with the other attackers every game he plays and even starts scoring more easily.
I don’t think we have to miss Diego too much, if Salvio’s given the time and guidance. Simeone knows how to handle him.
Hopefully Koke can play next to Mario/Emre/Gabi, but he’ll have to prove in preseason he’s better than at least two of them. Plus, his defensive work needs some improvement. He’s good at it, but not good enough for all La Liga opponents, since there is a big difference, compared to Segunda B and youth international games. Same goes for Dominguez, he’ll have to show Simeone he’s better than Godin, who should leave while still worth something. I like Miranda, though, he’s become very good eventually and was very important in the decreasing amount of conceded goals.

Juanfran, Miranda, Dominguez, Filipe; Emre, Koke; Salvio, Adrian, Turan; Falcao – looks nice (on paper) to me! 4-3-3 could be used in some games, but that’ll cost you one of these attacking players…

Well, let’s see what comes of this promise.

  • shay

We’re all just a bunch of good “Championship Manager” players, arent we?? 🙂

  • shay

    @ Shlomgar @
I’m from Tel aviv. Nice to see there’s more then one Colchonero in “Barca&Real infested” Israel

  • Dircil

@shay: what are the most supported football club in Israel ? I mean other European teams not an Israeli domestic team. In Vietnam, I’ve got heaps of people loving MU. Maybe I’m the only crazy Vietnamese supporting Atletico

  • shlomgar

Dircil, I don’t know about Vietnam cause when I wore my Rojiblanko jersey there, only Spanish and English travellers recognised it. Oh and jerseys salesmen…

In Thailand I saw someone wearing the red&white but that’s a bit far…
Israel is primarily Barca, and there are some Liverpool, ManU and Chelsea fans.

Shay@ I’m from Petach Tiqwa. Only one I know of. We should find a third, than we’ll have a fan club. 🙂

  • shay

@ Dircil: In general it’s Barca, Real, MU, Juve and maybe Spurs because of the Jewish connection… But over the last few year (for obvious reasons) all of Israel has gone mad over Barcelona, mainly the MEDIA. It makes you sick, this blind idolizing.. Lots of “football fans” here don’t even know players that are not in Barca or Real..

When I speak about Atleti here, People look at me like a dog hearing sounds he dose’nt understand…

  • shay

    I’m in Shlomgar 🙂

  • Dircil

Godin + a redundant player like Merida or Diego Costa for Diego, could it be a good deal ?

  • Sweden

Godin is worth quite a lot, but we really need to get rid of some players, assancao for one.

  • Sebyk

@Dircil: There were some rumours that we’ll sell Godin for cash and bring cheaper Botia instead, however, Gil Marin would undergo this step only in order to pay the debt we owe to Porto for Falcao. There is just no money to spare and even if there was, we’d invest it to keep Falcao/Adrian.
The thing that scares me is that if Godin isn’t sold (which I believe to be a great move), Salvio will go – and probably for less than 10 millions 🙁

  • Scott

    Godín out, Botia in.

I can’t stand Godín! I think he’s much overrated and he’s made many mistakes and some own goals.. Rather have Botia + he’s spanish!

  • leika
  • Sebyk
  • JohnGreece

Here we are.Ronaldinho is leaving Flamengo and i do not think anyone arguing that he is an excellent option for us.He’s played in La liga, not that old and free, probably not asking very much for his wages. These players are needed,in order to compete with the very best.I think this guy behind Falcao would be fantastic, creating many chances.

  • ali_

JOKE of the year so far, JohnGreece

  • Lubo

    @JohnGreece:
you Sir, you just made my day!

  • JohnGreece

You are right guys,he is a veteran, like Drogba let’s say. They just can’t.Young players such as Godin,Mario,Pizzi and Sivio are way better.OK.

  • Lubo

Man, you can’t compare Ronaldinho’s attitude and approach with Drogba. It’s not about his age, Gourdinho hardly puts his best and he would also ask too much money.

  • Hey guys have you realized this? Every time we win Europa League Bayern lose in the Champions League Final Like vs Inter and Now vs Chelsea, But its good for them because they beat us 4-0 in 1974 and we got our Revenge in some style. BTW when is Super Cup Final?

  • @John Greece

Ignore them. You are right. He would be the ideal backup for Diego same brazilian style and his wage demands shouldn’t be much

  • DJ_ZA

    @RandyG – it’s in Monaco on 31 August

  • Dircil

while Chelsea just got 2 new highly qualified players (Hulk and Hazard), we still struggle to keep Falcao and Diego. So sad about our club.

  • ali_

why even are u compare us to chelsea? they have money, they just won the CL. nuff said i think.

  • Yon

I don’t understand….we didn’t make top 4 last year, as a club we should be looking to improve on that, yet we do not take in Diego who is a fans favourite so would have high shirt sales, attract Brazilian fans to the stadium and was also a key player in winning the Europa league, surely to god letting him go proves we have no real ambition at this club and are not actually looking to move forward?

Unrelated, is there any word on the kits for next season? Or are they just the same with Huawei on them?

  • JimboWithTheDancingShoes

I still think that we have to sell Diego Costa (this Will Also give a chance for some of the Young attackers we have) and NOT buy Juardo! But buy the Winger Alejandro Gomez and try Arda in a more central role.

  • shlomgar

Yon@ couldn’t say it better myself. And I think we should keep this year’s kit, the away is one of the best in years. Look at the new UGLY Barca uniforms, change is not always good.

  • DJ

all your in new players are awful, simply awful. you will never play in the champion league again with these has been. Emre for fuck sake !!!

    What are you guys thinking?

  • ratchet

sorry DJ, who knocked who out of the europa league?. Valencia will have to sell as well, so we will probz hv more chance of finishing in CL than u will.

  • Dircil

@DJ: better than no signing at all. Btw, both players used to be awesome, and they accumulated much experience so I think to some extent they really help the club. Hope that we can qualify for the CL next season and the boards will reinvest in upgrading the squad. I just hope so.

  • Dircil

As JohnGreece said, Ronaldinho is a free agent now, he still got his magic and he had heaps of tricks, passing skills and above all, experience in La liga. The only problem is his wage but still we can negotiate Despite the fact that he’s a bit old now (32 years old) but he’s still a lot better than Jurado and we can still use him for at least 2 years

  • Dircil

you guys’d better watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv3nWjq6S08

  • If he plays like that how he did in the video forget diego. Purchase his ass for free.

  • Javi Lozoya

Ronaldinho is an ex-player like Forlan. No offense to them, they were world class players during their prime but I think they can no longer play at the highest level. Plus, you guys know Dinho has very demanding wages. Flamengo payed him almost 1 million per month. There’s just no way Atleti is gonna pay his salary.

  • Javi Lozoya

We need a most definitively play maker because Diego isn’t staying, why not going for Abdel Barrada from Getafe?. He is young, promising, and I don’t think he will be expensive because Getafe usually don’t sell that expensive. Atleti could also include a player in a possible negotiation. But then again I suppose we ain’t interested in Barrada and most likely Jurado is coming back.

  • Javi Lozoya

Here’s a video about Barrada, but I assume most of ya’ll know him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFxMIe5ljJ4

  • Javi Lozoya

It is also not a secret that we need a DM. There is Claudio Yacob from Racing. Great player, Cholo coached him, and supposedly he is going to be a free agent. Atleti should totally go and sign him.

  • Javi Lozoya

Jonathan Bottinelli has been linked with us. Simeone contacted him. here’s his twitter http://twitter.com/#!/bottinellijona.
Botinelli is a center back and can also play as left back. He won the Clausura 2007 with San Lorenzo and played once in Europe with Sampdoria. Botinelli is quite a good defender. He has an Italian passport. I suppose if he comes to Atleti, Godin might leave. But it’s all just summer endless rumors.

  • Dircil

@Javi: the player from Getafe that u referred did not leave any impression on me. I’m not really interested in that player and so do some other Atleti fans. I dont think he can do a better job than Arda assumed that he will be converted to a playmaker in the following season.

  • Javi Lozoya

He is pretty good in my opinion despite what you said. Remember this is his first season as a professional player, therefore I assume he is gonna get better. But of course you have your opinion and I have mine and that’s totally respectable. I would like to see Arda as our creative midfielder too by the way. He has good vision and great passing skills. He might surprise us if he plays that role.

  • Dircil

    well said Javi!!

  • Javi Lozoya

    Thanks.

  • leika

Another rumour too good to be true:
    http://www.footballpress.net/?action=read&idsel=103336

  • Lubo

leika what is so good about that?!? this club has no money, we reportedly owe almost 30 millions to Porto.
So for this to become true, we’d have to sell Falcao. Is that a kind of sacrifice you would like to make? I don’t think so…

  • Javi Lozoya

yet another endless rumor that claims we’re going after Ola Toivonen from PSV, http://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/site/nieuws/239175/Ook_Atltico_en_Internazionale_volgen_Toivonen.html.
His transfer fee is around 9M. Toivonen is a good player with international experience and versatile.

  • leika

I guess there will be a lot of rumours in the summer. I personally are waiting forward to Euro 2012 so maybe some new players step up who would be intresting to see in Atleti.

  • Javi Lozoya

Yep lot’s of rumors, but if Atleti wants to sign European players they better do it now as some European players might increase their transfer value after the Euro.

  • Javi Lozoya

Damn!. Venezuela achieved a historic result at the mythic Estadio Centenario in Montevideo in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Guess who scored an own goal?, Diego Godin.

  • Sweden

wouldn’t want to see Ola Toivonen playing in atleti..

  • Javi Lozoya

Ola Toivonen rocks, I’d love to see him playing for Atleti
