Atlético have confirmed on the official club website that Diego Godín will sign with the club on a five-year contract from Villarreal on Monday.
The clubs agreed a deal this morning. Atleti’s press release does not confirm the transfer fee, but it’s suggested in the media that we’ll pay €8.5m for 50% of the player’s rights.
Godín will arrive in Madrid tomorrow and undergo his medical on Friday.
If all goes well the centre-back will sign his contract on Monday 9 August. Godín has agreed to sign for five years with Atleti and will be presented shortly after signing.
Welcome Diego Godín! That makes four Uruguayans now!
Update 5 August: Atlético buy full rights of Godín
Both AS and Marca report today that Atlético have bought all of Godín’s rights for €11m, which could be increased by €2m in incentives. The €11m will be paid over four installments.
That deal seems a lot better than what was reported earlier, and might even leave some money to sign Tiago this summer.
Godín has arrived in Madrid this morning, has passed his medical, and put pen-to-paper on the 5 year deal. Welcome!
