Atlético midfielder Arda Turan, who leads the squad in assists this season with five, gave a press conference following Thursday morning’s training session.
The former Galatasaray captain, who joined Atleti this past summer, feels the team has improved under new coach Diego Simeone.
“We have a lot of quality and defensively, we are playing better,” he said.
“We feel like a team and we are doing what the coach asks us to. I think we are playing better and we are in a very strong league and have a very strong team.”
Ahead of los Rojiblancos’ trip to Santander on Saturday to face off against Racing, Arda spoke of how challenging it is to play as a visitor in the Primera División, before issuing some words of warning to all our future foes.
“Playing away from home is very difficult in Spain because every team plays very well in their stadium,” he said.
“We are going to try to control the game defensively and are going to attack. I think that as long as they can’t score a goal against us, no team can beat us.
“We’re Atlético Madrid and our opponents must watch out for us.”
When asked if he felt he and the team are performing at their highest level of the campaign, the 25-year-old said:
“I am more focussed when it comes to playing defensively and I have to be more offensive. When we are in the Champions League spots we are going to play better.”
Finally, Arda talked about his experience in a new country and new league so far.
“When I arrived in Spain I thought that I wasn’t going to be able to play all the matches, but I assured everyone that I would fight and that hasn’t changed and we’re going to continue improving,” he said.
“We’re a family and since I arrived I felt at home both within the dressing room and with the people of the club. Everyone has treated me very good. The fans are with us and every game at home is a celebration.
“I’m very happy here.”
