Atlético Madrid B’s run of 5 draws has ended with a 2-1 defeat against Celta B.

The B-team had every right to be upset with the result, because they had seen two goals disallowed and were denied a clear penalty.

The young Rojiblancos weren’t focussed in the first half and were two goals down at half time. The first was unfortunate, but to make matters worse, Paco Regalón scored in his own goal.

Shortly before the break Atlético’s defence were caught napping and Jota was allowed to double Celta’s lead.

In between, Sergio Marcos seemed to have scored the equaliser with a shot from 30 meters out, but his goal was controversially disallowed for offside.

In the second half we improved and closed down the gap to one through a goal by Pedro Martín.

A goal by substitute Gerard was disallowed because, according to the linesman, the ball had crossed the backline before Cantero crossed it in.

The Colchoneros were furious and their anger increased when the referee denied Gerard a penalty in the final minute of the game.

There was also good news for Atlético, as Javi Manquillo debuted with the B-team. The 17-year old right back had already featured with the first team, but was still part of the Juvenil team. It’s expected he will now make the step up to our reserves.

Line-up: Iago; Manquillo, César Ortiz, Regalón, Cantero; Fer (“72 Iván), Sergio Marcos; Omar (“46 Gerard), Noguera, Saúl (“46 Kader); and Pedro.

Goals: 1-0 Regalón o.g. (“23); 2-0 Jota (“37); 2-1 Pedro (“64)

Nice to see Manquillo starting to play at a higher level, but I can see how the players are annoyed by the disallowed goals.
They were doing so well not too long ago, time to get back on the right escalator.
