Atlético Madrid B were in great form, but after a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid Castilla, the team seems to have hit a bit of a slump.
The team played a goalless draw at Tenerife last week, and escaped with a point in this week’s derby with Rayo B that ended all knotted up at 2-2.
Paco Regalón secured a point for the young Rojiblancos far into the added time. The captain struck the ball through a maze of players into the back of the net after a loose ball landed before his feet.
With the draw Atleti B are now in 8th position after 17 games.
Atlético’s start to the match had been terrible. In the very first minute of the match there was a misunderstanding between Iago and César Ortiz, and Mata was able to head the ball past the goalkeeper.
Pedro Martín, who debuted for the first team in midweek, almost equalised but saw his shot stopped by Isma. At the other end former Rojiblanco Aitor Núñez forced Iago to a save.
In the 20th minute youngster Saúl Ñíguez leveled the score. The youngster, he only turned 17 last month, scored with a header from a Sergio Marcos free kick.
In the second half the visitors took the lead for a second time. After a poor clearance from the unfortunate César Ortiz, the ball was picked up by Jorge Saéz. The left midfielder curled the ball beautifully past Iago to make it 2-1 to Rayo.
Atlético showed great character and fought back to tie the game at the very end. After Nono had been dismissed for his second booking, the team pushed their cross town rivals back until Paco Regalón scored the deserved goal in the dying seconds of the match.
