Youngsters called up to national selections

De Gea, Domínguez and Mérida called up for Spain

De Gea Domínguez

We reported yesterday that Keko, Jorge Pulido and Koke had done a fantastic job for Spain U19, as the team reached the final of the European Championship.

To demonstrate Atleti’s bright future, we also have three players called up for Spain U21. Four, if you count Rubén Pérez, who is on loan at Deportivo la Coruña.

I believe Luis Milla, the man who also lead Spain U19 to the final in France yesterday, has been appointed as coach of U21, after Ramón López Caro left to coach SC Vaslui in Portugal. His replacement selected Álvaro Domínguez, David de Gea, Fran Mérida and Rubén Pérez for the decisive qualifying game for the European Championship.

Spain will take on Finland in Kotka, on 11 August. The players will gather on the sixth and return one day after the match.

Cabrera to make his debut for Uruguay?

Leandro Cabrera has received his first call-up for Uruguay’s senior side. The semi finalists of the recent World Cup will play a friendly against Angola on 11 August. The match is played in Portugal.

Diego Forlán has been rested for this match. But Lele could make his debut alongside his new teammate (?) Diego Godín.

Since it’s a friendly, there is actually a good chance Cabrera will get some minutes.

He might be the future replacement of Lugano and partner of Godín in central defence 🙂
