Atlético Madrid travel roughly 10 miles south on Sunday for the 12th round of La Liga, when we make our way to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for a league fixture against Getafe.
The teams kick off at 22:00 CET.
Getafe and Atleti have met 18 times and based on history and recent results we have little to fear of the home side, who only managed to beat us at their ground on one occasion.
The boys in blue are struggling this season and are currently in last position in the league table, with just seven points from ten games.
Atlético are doing only marginally better with 13 points since the start of the campaign, but things are looking up for the Rojiblancos.
In the last week Zaragoza (3-1) and Udinese (4-0) were defeated convincingly and the team seems to have shrugged off their anxiety after going without a win in the seven matches prior to last Sunday.
We now face the enormous task of scoring in an away game.
So far Atleti have been unable to find the back of the net in any of our away games in the Liga BBVA this season, but with Adrián in great form and Falcao back to his scoring ways, goals seem guaranteed.
Adrián scored four times in the last two games and tied Falcao as this season’s top scorer of the club in all competitions.
His coach, Gregorio Manzano, even went as far as to say that in time the forward can expect to receive a call up for ‘La Roja’.
“If Adrián continues like this, then sooner or later he’ll be wearing the shirt of the Spanish national team,” he said.
About tomorrow’s rivals, Manzano said:”They are in a low position [in the table], but whenever a team is down they will work hard to recover.
“It won’t be easy for us at all. Getafe have a good team and they will put up a fight”, he added.
His counterpart, Luis García, recalled the 2-0 victory he got over Atleti last season when he was still managing Levante.
“Tomorrow’s game is very important, we need the three points to leave the 20th place.”
The coach, a lifelong Atlético fan, continued: “I hope Atleti will again bite the dust.”
At least García won’t have to worry about Sílvio, Mario Suárez and Reyes, as the trio miss out. Mario is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card last week, while Sílvio is injured.
José Antonio Reyes resumed training on Friday after recovering from a flu, but wasn’t called up by Manzano. Sergio Asenjo and Jorge Pulido were also left off the match selection.
Luis Perea trained apart from the group on Saturday, but is expected to be available for the match. Juanfran returns after an injury kept him out for a week.
Manzano selected the following 19 players for the match against Getafe:
Goalkeepers: Joel, Courtois
Defenders: Godín, López, Filipe, Domínguez, Perea, Miranda
Midfielders: Tiago, Arda Turan, Assunção, Gabi, Koke, Juanfran, Diego
Forwards: Adrián, Salvio, Falcao and Pizzi
