Atlético Madrid B are climbing up the table with a 2-0 victory away at UB Conquense.
Milinko Pantic’ youngsters are unbeaten in five and are now 6th in the table, only three points away from the spots that qualify for the promotion play-offs at the end of the season.
Both goals in Cuenca were scored in the second half.
The young Rojiblancos were expected to take the points given that the home side are the only team without a win this season.
Atlético played very well-controlled football in the first half, dominating possession. But this didn’t result in any clear cut chances. If it weren’t for Iago, Conquense could have even taken the lead through Morillas.
Shortly after the break it was César Ortiz who set the teams apart. He headed in a corner kick taken by Cidoncha.
From that point on Atleti had nothing to worry about and could have extended their lead, but last season’s top scorer Collado missed eye-to-eye with goalkeeper Caballero.
In the 76th minute, substitute Pedro decided the match. He made the most of a mistake by Javi Selvas and calmly slotted the ball past Caballero to put daylight between the two teams.
Next week Atlético B host Albacete, a direct rival, at the Cerro del Espino.
Line-up: Iago; Regalón, César, Míchel, Cantero; Vicente, Cidoncha (“82 N’Doye); Kader, Noguera, Gerard (“66 Pedro); and Collado (“74 Sergio Marcos)
