Filipe presented in the Vicente Calderón

The Brazilian leftback finally gets to put on the red white jersey

Filipe presentation

Atlético Madrid unveiled Filipe to the press on Tuesday – their fourth signing of the summer put pen to paper on a five-year deal before being paraded in front of ecstatic Atleti fans at the Vicente Calderón.

Deportivo will receive €12m, with €6m paid up-front immediately. In the next two summers they will receive two additional payments of €3m.

As part of the deal, Rubén Pérez has gone on a two year loan to A Coruña. The midfielder had a lot of competition for a spot in the Vicente Calderón, but he should get plenty of playing time and experience in the Riazor.

Deportivo have also obtained a first option on Miguel de las Cuevas – if we ever decide to buy him back and then sell him on – and will get 15% if we sell Filipe. The final component of this deal is Atlético’s participation in the next two editions of the Trofeo Teresa Herrera, a friendly tournament that Deportivo host in every preseason.

Cerezo started the presentation by welcoming Filipe and introducing him to the Madrilean press. After some basic info about Filipe’s career, the player was given the opportunity to give his thoughts.

“I always watched Atlético’s matches on tv and it’s a team I like very much. That’s why I was flattered when the team showed its interest in me.”

There were rumours that Real Madrid and Barcelona were also interested in signing Filipe, but the leftback says the choice he made was easy:

“There hasn’t been an offer by Barcelona, the only team that was really interested was Atlético. But the choice would have been easy for me, I would have picked Atleti any way.”

“I’m honoured the club wanted to sign me. I always want to win and give my best for the team. Now all I want to do is have a great future with Atlético.”

“The team has done a great job and it’s an honour for me to form part of this group. Quique Sánchez Flores seems like a great trainer and is doing a great job with this team. My main goal is to do my best for Quique, like I always did for Lotina.”

After the formal presentation, Filipe changed into our beautiful red-white outfit to pose for some questions and to receive a warm welcome from 500 fans.
