On Monday, former Atlético player José Hernández González passed away at the age of 85.
The midfielder, born on 11 September 1926 in Lanzarote, played for los Rojiblancos for nine years.
“Lobito Negro” (“Little Black Wolf”) joined Atlético in 1949 and won the Spanish league in his first season with the club.
The following year, Atleti repeated their glory by winning the Primera División title again, adding the Spanish Super Cup to their trophy case in the same year.
José Hernández made 184 appearances for Atlético and won several awards in his home town. In 2008, he was named the best player from Lanzarote of all time.
